mpc 2000

What's the deal everybody?
Check this out, I have never used a pc with my MPC, and i was wondering, if i bought soundforge, what would i need to add to my computer to make it compatible since it's not set up for that?

well as long as both the mpc and pc have floppy drives you are set. as long as your samples are small enough to fit a floppy.

in the long run you will probably want a zipdrive on the mpc and pc. i use 2 zipdrives one is scsi for the mpc and my old parallel port one on the computer.
that way all i have to do is leave everything running and flip the disks between the 2 drives.
you will probably want to buy mpc editor software from www.midicase.com too! this is a must have if you are using a pc and mpc together.

if you had a scsi interface (card) for the PC you could use the same zip drive for both. you do not want to have both hooked to the zip and powered up at the same time though. are you using mpc2000 or XL?

yes you simply swap the zip disk between the computer and the mpc zip drives and make sure to keep your filenames for sounds 8characters or less. you will probably want to buy mpc editor from www.midicase.com to help manage and setup .pgms on your computer.

WARNING:
if you take an mpc formatted zip disk and stick it in the computer, windows overwrites a header block or something on the zip disk, then the zip disk doesnt recognize it even though all your sounds are still there. there is a workaround for this, but you have to be comfortable making an entry in your windows registry. if you dont know alot about computers find a friend that can do it for you and email me and i will pass along the code that fixes it. someone was nice enough to send it to me and it got me all fixed up. with the 2000XL it isnt a problem.

Just wanted to mention that I run a 2000 rig (non-XL) and have never experienced problems in transferring snds, pgms, wavs or any other file to and from the PC and MPC.

This may be just my particular gear or it may be that I'm lucky and haven't had it happen so far, but I've made at least a hundred bulk transfers of sounds sampled from MPC to PC and loaded them back to MPC zip/floppy after having edited them, etc.

I've always seen warnings against this, but I only work one project per zip anyway. I don't shutdown my MPC during transfer sessions, and make sure to safe FROM MPC before and after any transfer TO and FROM PC.

you use the zip disk both ways for the transfer?
i think it is only a problem with mpc formatted zip disks. of course first thing i did was format the zips in the mpc so my zips full of years of sounds are mpc format, HA.
i know dos formatted will work right in both the mpc and pc with no problems.
