Line6 Filter Pro

anybody using this unit? I'm thinking about picking it up and can't hear it anywhere.

i've heard that there are gain issues and some cats have said it sounds too brash.

personally i don't buy gear i can't hear but this is a special case cause i'm looking at a mutron3 at the same price tag. this thing emulates in both positions so i'm thinking it might be a better buy with the more esoteic filters.

anyone with a hands-on would be appreciated.

I tried one of the floor models, not the pro model... and I thought some of the models sounded really nice. I think the brash sound you are hearing about is on the synth models. They are cool but are a bit too bright and you really have to play smooth to get them to work. The synth models tracking was really bad for me on bass. On the other hand, I think the mutron model was one of the best on the unit. It is way better than the bass pod version. I play bass and own a qtron and a bassballs. The fm4 was close to the qtron. Maybe even a little smoother, and less quacky. If you can get a good price on it, go for it. I am sure you will find some other settings you like and thus not be limited to just the auto wah sound. You get a lot of bang for the buck with these units.

i just demo'd a q-tron + that's thrown another wrinkle into the whole thing but it seems like the money could go better to a multi-fx.

the line6 is $299, down from $699 BTW.

Go give the Line6 a try, that is a great price. The rack version has midi sync too, that alone is worth it.

dudum.....i wonder what are you purposes for the Line6?

reason i ask is because i was thinking of getting the mfc42 filter for the mpc. To filter out samples. Or maybe sometype of efx unit, or EQ.

i suppose it's main use will be in mono-signal down the recording chain.

i plan on using it for my guitar/bass/keyboard rigs.

i am mainly looking for the mutron phasing effect to be used in conjunction with a simulated tape-delay on my TCM300. some of the other models sound interesting but i'm in search of that 'unstable' phasing/envelope.

i plan on buffering the chain through a Mesa Tube Pre to warm it up a bit as well.

I use the Line 6 Mod Pro rack...works great. The emulations are very identical to the original units it emulates (I've A/B'd with the units I personally own). In terms of gain, you gotta know how to use it...The unit I have has seperate input and output gain nobs; needless to say, you need to pay attention to your gain staging in order to use this unit effectively.

Bottomline, this unit is easy to use and implement into your setup...You should be impressed with the sound and multitude of tweeks you can make as well. I like mine so much that I plan to get the Filter and Echo units in the very near future.
