Holy crapola!

http://www.native-instruments.com/newre ... ontent=101

Initial thoughts ...

... impressive but ...

Still software dependent and somehow I think somebody needs to start making hardware (or software for that matter) with fewer features and smaller libraries ... not more

I know that sounds counter-intuitive but I think I'm onto something, all that choice, all that detail, it's overwhelming. Look at all the classic hardware out there, it's simple, limited.

Better specs yes, more sampling time, higher sample rate etc, but there is an optimum feature set. It shouldn't be limitless.

a more elaborate sp606 type interface be insteresting to see what benefits that kind of connectiong brings cos if a person is using an mpd-16 or something similar with ableton or reason what extra benfits do they get from using this?

r.i.p. mpc 500

it's a pretty interesting controller, should do well. looks like it would be an insane addition to a software setup. bad news for akai and others.

it's not for me, but i'd definitely like to try it out at a store or something.

one very important question though... does it come with custom grillz and paintz?

Wow,.....I could be wrong but I can't help but think that these new "Groove Boxes"(Native Instruments and Motu) are trying to get the jump on the Linn Drum 2. Just my thoughts, but this looks dope!! :D

One thing I'm diggin about the NI Mashine is it's cleanly and clearly executed, you tell right off the bat that thing make sense with this system. I bet you can get it up and running and no time.

As a Die Hard MPC user, I have to admit, this is the first non Akai drum machine I've ever wanted to try out!

You was down for the NI stuff anyway.

The only thing that makes me kinda hesitant is the Native Instruments stuff always seems to be pretty taxing on the CPU( at least in my experience). Judging on just the looks of it, the Maschine "appears" that it will be just as taxing if not more... I could be totally wrong about this though.....just my 2 cents. :D

I always had problems with NI's policies. Too much of a hassle after I have paid for it.

On a side note:
Am I the only one that thinks the new invasion of back-light drum pads makes these new offerings look like toys?
They are starting to show up EVERYWHERE too... Beat Kangz, Maschine, Akai drum machine, Korg stuff, Roland fantom line, and even the elusive and desirable LinnDrum II. I guess next there will be a retro kit for the 60?

I think Yamaha's Tenori-On has paved the way for most of these machines in the LED stakes. If it actually adds another dimension to the programming then i'm down with it.
