S950 floppy drive(pictures inside)

Aight guys, I upgraded from an s900 to an s950. Problem is my floppy drive died in the s950. I tryed to replace it with my s3000xl's floppy drive. I also took pictures on how to remove a floppy drive out of the s950, which I will post on this forum soon.

But when I turn on the s950 with the s3000xl's floppydrive installed, it kinda freezes. It try's to locate the diskdrive, which lights up, but doesn't start to spin. When I press the Disk button it says there's no disk mounted.

Are the s950 and the s3k's floppydrive not compatible? Or did I do something wrong. Maybe a jumper setting?
I also have a floppy drive in my s900 off course. I can see the previous user has replaced the original one with a newer one.
What are the odds that the s950 is compatible with this one, and also can read hd floppy's once it's installed in the s950?

I remember that I've read somewhere that getting a new floppydrive to 950 is almost impossible, 900 is easier to replace. I just hope mine floppy in 950 won't break any time soon..

Nothing is impossible, especially replacing a floppy drive which is HD. It's def more difficult to get your hands on the 900's DD drive than the 950. Do your search.

Whats the name (brand and number) of your disk drive (the original s950, and the one from the s3000XL)?

I'm also interested in the name of the floppy drive that was built in your s900.

this dude kebzer is completely wrong. and if he can put anyone on to how to replace the 950 floppy i will eat my words.. haha duke cant even work his 1200

but seriously the 900 floppy can be replaced by almost any drive with jumpers. the 950 not so much.

and no the s3k joint will not work on the 950.

not to thread hijack or anything, but these is a s900 locally that needs a new floppy drive. the dude told me to make him an offer...so not knowing to much about older akai samplers i have a few questions:

1)what drives can be put into the s900 and how much would they run, ballpark?

2)what would be a fair price for a used s900 that needs a new drive?

A few friends of mine are trying to get/ build me a floppy emulator. Don't know if it will work for the 950, but they want to try it anyway. If it works, I would be able to use an usb stick or cf card.

Word. The drive is a TEAC FD235HF but you need an exact version of that drive. If VST doesn't have the drives in stock, perhaps they would know the version so you can source one elsewhere.

Either way, post what you find out.

sounds interesting but I dont think that this is possible without serious hardware and/or software hacking. Well I would like to see some technerds and freaks that can do such mods. Good luck

Well I called VST looking for a part for my 2500 and asked if they have the drives for you.

They have em for $90.

$90 is a complete rip off for a floppy drive

Thanks man. I already mailed VST. I'm going to order one this week. It's really a rip off. I even have to pay $27 shipping costs to holland. This thing is going to cost me even more then my 950.
But for me it's still worth the investment for my dedicated sampler.

p.s. Will it be usful for anyone if I post the pics on how to remove/ replace the s950's floppydrive?
