Product Review (Mix-400)

Disclaimer: I have seen these stands used by other MPC heads, so I am not claiming this as an original idea, I just thought I would do a review on it.





I recently purchased a Mix-400 Mixer Stand from a guy on Ebay, and he happened to be local to Central FL. I have been eyeing a mixer stand for my MPC1000 and this one seemed to be the best one avail in the sub $150 range. It has a lot of adjustability, and seems to be very sturdy. The height adjustment is great, and the ability to change the angle of the top frame is a god send since the MPC 1000 does not have a flip screen.

It has Casters, and that was a must. I have been scratching my floors with other stands and stuff, so wheels were a must. There were quite a few mixer stands avail with and without wheels.

I was able to find 2 different models at Guitar Center and Sam Ash. The unit at GC was the MIX-400 and it is priced at $139. The $139 asking price IMHO is spot on for what you get. This unit is ALMOST perfect, the only thing I could complain about is that it does not close enough to HUG the MPC. There is about an inch of space on both sides of the MPC, which does/has not had any effect on its functionality in my setup. I plan on using some foam as added security.

The Sam Ash model (QL-400) is priced lower, and seems to be a little lacking on durability, but I am sure it would have worked out fine. The price is at $69 which is great, but I believe in getting what you pay for in most cases when purchased new.

I got mine on Ebay as stated above for $49 (If I had to pay shipping it would have been $69), so I got the better unit IMHOP for the price of the less expensive unit. My MPC 1000 gets used a lot, and with the added weight of me hitting the pads I wanted the toughest unit of this design I could find and afford. So far I am extremely satisfied with my Mix-400.


On a scale of 1-5 (1 Lo/5 Hi) I rate this stand a 4.5 based on what I wanted it to do, and how well it performs those functions. I would highly recommend. For the price I paid, it was a no brainer. Full Priced it is still a great product at a great price.

Looks like it'll do the job well... just watch those tight midi cables though. You're only one little accident away from a broken midi socket or two!

You are absolutely correct... But I have at least 6 more feet on those cables in that pic... That is when the MPC is in the the middle of the room.... That will hardly happen, I did that for lighting purposes for the pics.

Sick stand I'd have to put something under the wheels, I think my floors are slanted, I'd find my ish in the living room the next day lol

I think the wheels have locks on them.

My quicklok stand does and from the photos looks like this stand does as well.

Has anyone used the mpc 1000 w/ the quicklok 400 stand? I'm debating between that and the mix 400 stand like the one shown in this review.
I see it just barely fits on those feet holding the front edge of the mpc on the mix 400. .... and the quicklok stand looks like it has thinner feet to hold it at the front and I'm worried it won't hold it as good or at all.

yea, i've seen the quicklocks, how u think they compare?

both are about the same, I wouldnt recommend these for mpc 1000 unless you got some extra padding on sides to make it a snug fit..also you could put a shelf inside the stand, and screw a strip of wood at the bottom as a stopper
