Shame they skrimped on the 12" screen and didn't included a VGA out for those of us who'd actually like to see what we're doing, but it still looks like a beast. With a few revisions it'd be an absolute killer production/performance device. Trouble is, I've never even seen an OpenLabs product in the flesh, let alone used one. Does anyone here own a Miko/Neko? If so, what are they like?

they never stop amazing me the miko is the sickest piece of gear out now not 1 company out there can do what it does

lol, this thing looks like it was designed back in the '80's. Somebody must tell these guys that they need to start designing SMALLER products.

Pricetag is a biggie and I would prefer everything to be switched over - as in the screen on the left, pads and mixer on the right, etc

This is technically something that anyone could do (if you have patience to build a housing unit for it all) as its just loads of PC parts put together (as we know with the miko etc) but they always do it so well that you really don't mind. They also have really high spec PC parts used in the config like 4tb disk space, so you do actually get a lot

EDIT: just read, it only has 320gb hdd and a standard core2duo, lol wtf my laptop has that built in - guess its genuinely built for a different crowd

its big because its a PC with mpd18 built in. nothing more nothing less.

That is what it is. A low end core 2 duo laptop with a low end Presonus audio interface loaded with live 7, and Open labs Riff software. What is cool is it is wrapped in one interface with knobs, pads, transport control, and a 12 inch touchscreen.

You could have the same with an Novation Remote Zero, padkontrol, and a faster laptop. You would also have your own choice of higher end audio card and flexibility of expanding your own hardware.

You would only miss out on it being one portable unit and the touchscreen interface.

So the price would be fair if they didn't bundle a weak sound card and slower laptop.

Well, looking at the specs again I'm not sure that the laptop used is so cheap. If it is the newer gen core2 laptops it's cool. To get a nice quad laptop would run near 2 grand. The PreSonus Firebox it uses will run you about $280.00 US

The more I look at it, the more I like.

My only gripes is I wish it could be upgraded to a quad core I7 processor with tri channel Ram, video output for second LCD, and upgrade to a RME or Lynx sound card. If it had these upgrades it would be well worth the price. Something like the Miko LXD with no keyboard and better sound card.

This machine is death on arrival $3,999.00 overpriced,being marketed as a highend
instrument.
Mosts off the cats out here who are truly into making beat of producing already have all the funtions that the DBeat has plus more already in there arsonal, it dont make sence to make that type of investment.

If you have a labtop,mpc all mpcs +prophelahead bathery what ever DAW instrument you allready have you got it.
Machines that are comming out are pretty redundant in their functions all being copied and repackages,theres is nothing new being offered.

So if you have the cash go for it have fun,who nows I might go for one off thos

It's a nice piece. I think the price is a little high, but I like the idea.

This isn't really an issue if you plan on upgrading to Live 8 when it's released. Live 8 has a zoom function.

Magnify the user interface for optimal visibility on dark stages or hi-res screens. Zoom out for the big picture.
