anyone who uses digi002 but mpc for drums?

does anyone have a magical formula for that studio setup? like, what's your opinion on using mpc for drums opposed to the digi002?

Your question is a lil confusing, whe you say "what's the difference between using the MPC for drums opposed to the digi002" do you mean as opposed to sequencing in Pro Tools?

Well, either way, I tend to do all the hardware sequencing(drums, samples,Triton Extreme, sound modules)on the MPC and sequence Sampletank, MinimmogV and Reason in PT. I almost always start with drums so I just track the drums into PT and just start adding layers as I go, goin back and forth between hadrware an software sequencing until I feel the song is done, then everything gets tracked or bounced to audio in PT.

Co...Do you sync protools your MPC, or vice verse, or just record all your MPC and module audio in first, then do PT work?

Yeah, I have the MPC set to receive midi clock and MMC from PT. I tend to do all of what you said, sometimes I'll track th drums right away if I'm really feelin' em, sometimes I don't track anything until the song is done but 9 times outta 10 I'm goin back and forth from the MPC to Sampletank to the Minimoog to the Triton, it just depends on what sound I'm lookin' for.

I track the drums as soon as they're at a place where I feel they're movin' me so I can use them a reference for editing all the soft synth tracks later just in case there are any descrepencies between the MPC clock and the PT clock.

That's hot. This is how I work sometimes, although I really like doing as much as I can w/ the XL. I've had a 2000 for five years, and it really does me justice. But, I am at a loss right now for softsynths, so I don't really do any midi in PT now. That'll change tho. That leads me to a side question:
do you use reason inside of protools as well?

Weezle, he's got it right. Sampletank is a good software sampler, but I doubt the intuitiveness beats an mpc, however, you can certainly track midi to the MPC, but keep the samples in sampletank.
Also, Battery is hot, cus the programs are laid out just like MPC pads onscreen, but of course w/ more filters and ish. I've also been told you can dump MPC programs into battery, but I don;t use it, so maybe someone else can chime in on that note...

We also have a Mac G4 Dual 1.25 but my Athlon 64 sys mashes that thing and it cost me about a third of what a G5 costs.

You should tell people about that. Cus, I have a dual 450 g4, which, in OS9 only uses one processor. But still, it kills all these 1.25ghz PCs my boys have. Perhaps it's cus they are using Pentiums and Celerons. they get tons of crashes, and can't use ProTools very well with thier systems. I guess AMD Athlon is tha key!!

I love both systems but this Athlon 64 is workin out beautifuly for me so far, not a single crash yet.

I use the sequencer on PT for my keyboards(because I need that visual for editing), and the sequencer on the MPC for samples and drums. Everything is all sync'ed by MTC.
