light weight sound editing programs

is there any light wieght sound editing programs that i could use for an old laptop

Wavosaur <= freeware sound editor
Reaper <= affordableware DAW
Audacity <= less good freeware sound editor

all not resource intensive

well how old are we talking about? List a few specs.. including the OS.

That aside, I am sure audacity will run as that is light weight.

well its like a 33 gig hardrive with less than 400 mb of ram

man i really love audacity but that wavosaur is impressive AND tiny.

oh shit, lets not forget recycle... I mean for editing sounds..

you should be able to run reason 2.5 on a machine with those specs too... but what cpu do you have and what version of windows or what have you?

I prefer wavosaur over Audacity. For a while I was actually using wavosaur for chopping because it allows you to place markers and then export all the points between each marker as individual .wav files at the click of a button. I still use wavosaur for minor editing and mp3 export.

I remember using on called Switch....not sure if it's still available. Was freeware.

Download Reaper. It has a very good batch function. (I recommend to test the complete DAW. Its a beast and deserves support!)

I've missed Soundforge since I switched to Mac... still on the lookout for a replacement.

well, just as i was thinking wavosaur was real awesome, it totally choked on a 2-hour long file I tried to load. Well, it didn't appear to choke, which made it worse. It took about 5 minutes to load the file, then it had only loaded the first 12 minutes of it. It did this every time.

So I will keep Audacity on hand as well .... it's just too essential and no BS.
