good 12/16 track analog mixer?

need another mixer... preferably one with as many outs/sends as it does ins. will be using mixer to hook a gang of samplers into and recording onto a 16track R2R.

1202vlz is nice, too, if you only want 12 channels.

Mackie Onyx 1640, its a 16 channel firewire audio interface too (with the firewire option).

The newer 1640i has firewire as standard.

Both pretty similar to the Mackie 1604VLZ whic they replaced.

the soundcraft spirit studio series sounds way better than the mackie consoles. google that!

you´ll only get them second hand though (they are from the golden era...the 90s)!

You might want to look into an actual MTR as well, especially at their prices right now. Most double as a mixer/recorder with a lot of ins/outs.

I have the older 1604VLZ and I can definitely confirm what was said above. It gets HOT AF. Don't know if the Onyx series heats up like that.

theres one on craigslist by my hometown, just talked to the lady she put it on consignment for 150$ at this local music store... what you think?

Looks like a great deal. The analog Mackie I posted is at least $500 used. I worked at a bar that did live music and I used to play with the Soundcraft there with my iPod touch apps piped in before we opened. I thought it sounded great and was impressed with the EQ's.

1604 is good as mentioned.

that soundcraft probably sounds "better" id imagine....


with the 1604, youd get 8 direct outs and 4 busses... :-D :nod:


ive got an older cr1604-vlz... there are quite a few models of this same mixer... every year they get better pre-amps and lower signal to noise ratios i would assume... but i dont know the breakdown on the specifics between them all...


you can find these mixers pretty cheap sometimes... :smoker: :popcorn:


not sure of outputs or anything much at all on the soundcraft, just that it probably has a more "quality signal path"... which is only an unconfirmed assumption from this perspective...


basicly. jump on it! :-D cop the mackie later if another deal arises and you dont like the soundcraft.

Mackie have always been well priced for their features. I got the 1220i recently and to get a similar feature set from another manufacturer would have cost a lot more.
