ASR 10 & MPC

I currently own an MPC 2000XL and a bunch of dust *ss records. I am doing some work for this guy and we got to talking and I mentioned that I was into music production.To make a long story short he said that once upon a time he was to and he mentioned that he still had all of his equipment and he got to naming some the things that he had and he mentioned that he has a ASR 10 and the sister board to the ASR 10 I forget what he said the name was. But we are negotiating a deal the work in exchange for the board. The work would normally cost about $500.00. Is that a good deal. And what are the advantages of the ASR 10 whats so good about it whats bad about it. Who uses it I want to see what it sounds like. If im not mistaken it doesn't have any internal sounds. How could I incorporate it into the MIX!!!!!. anybody with an opinion please reply. THANX

alchemist uses it.........."only built for cuban linx" was done with the asr-10.........rza use to live by it..........i would say that is a deal if he has the scsi upgrade....this is something that would be difficult to come by nowadays...........hopefully it is fully functional also......the thing about this board is that it was pretty solid so replacement parts were limited...plus now since ensoniq is e-mu now, that would be more reason for unavailable parts

oh yeah....no internal sounds.....but internal effects......if you are into using mostly samples this will help you out alot........most of the things i can think of can be done almost the same in the mpc.......asr has more effects.......

The ensoniq is more deep than the mpc will ever be. If you need repairs there is a place in california that can fix absolutely anything that could go wrong with it, usually less than 2 week turn around. The asr-10 has a very powerful sequencer. If you are making hip-hop and into sampling this machine is excellent.

i don't live in california and it would be a headache for freight anytime something goes wrong......MPC USERS(newbies) please don't be discouraged...or gassed up to go buy this machine....it is an excellent machine......and "deeper" than the mpc but with techniques/time you can get the same jobs done

i've heard it's got an good compressor and a exelent eq.. Problably great for laying down drums.. A guy I know, just sold his 2000xl and bought the asr-10!

it is all about what fits you........or getting bored with one piece of equipment......everybody doesn't have dough to drop everytime it is a new board coming out.............i can't really picture selling my MPC unless it is for a better one!

The asr-10 has deeper sampler functions than the mpc, but I think the sampler is not as good. The effects are good. It is a good board and with the scsi option you can add a zip to make it more convient. I enjoy mine , which has a keyboard, so it makes multi sampling a little easier. it can be a powerful tool if you learn how to work it , just like the mpc.

can someone tell me what the oex-6sr expander is for the asr 10 also. and is 700 a good price for a asr 10 that is fully expanded with scsi memory latest os and the oex-6sr. and in good condition. and what does the 96' model have besides the purple screen that the 94' doesn't already have?
