Im thinking about selling my mpc. Ive been using ableton pretty extensively and am sort of phasing the mpc out. I love the mpc and all but ableton can do all of its features, from the sampling, chopping, to sequencing. Its just hard to get rid of it for sentimental reasons. It was what i really learned on and ive had it for over 5 years now. but i could really use a motu soundcard, 2 gigs of ram for this pc, and maybe a new mixer. I know though when i get some decent cashflow around i will purchase another 2000xl no doubt. But times is hard right now.

what would you do? Keep the mpc around gathering dust, or beef up studio...

sell it, clutter is worthless. if you found something better, lose the old, esp cuz you could get some dough for it if you're strapped

the more i think about it that seems to be the best idea. I can get this phonic firewire mixer
Imagesome ram, and a new hd probably with the money from the mpc. I have a trigger finger so its not like im losing the pad feel.

i do a lot of recording homie. I need ins for turntabls, guitars, drums, vocals, cd players, etc... I like to send my pcs outs into a mixer to then mix down on there and then do a 2 track mix down to my hhb cd burner. THis makes me thinnk though. Can you play the channles back thorough this thing. Like say i recorded on track one, can i playback on track one. Get what im saying? I might be better off with a nice mackie and a MOTU interface. to have 8 ins and 8 outs connected to the mixer.

sell it... XLs are easy to come by these days.. and if you miss it, just hit the bay for another one..

Dood ur gonna miss the hell outta that thing. If u get another one later on it wont be customized like the one u got. I just dont want you to regret it later when ur strapped for skril again. :(

you need an in-line mixer to do that. it basically has a monitor channel and volume control for each channel as well as the regular fader. don't think the phonic is worth the dough. you can get something used with better quality preamps and eq.

i think the mpd is the best replacement for the mpc if you're planning on going software based. Sell the 2kxl, cop the mpd 24, and you will have your customized mpc-like computer. I think the pads is the biggest attachment to people. The mpd24 is the perfect replacement. You will have the same feel except your working off of a pc.

Sell that shit. It sounds like you're ready to move on. MPC's aren't for everybody.

If you sell your MPC to buy new gear, don't disrepect it by buying that Phonic mixer. Even if its nice it won't hold its value, and if cash is tight and you're changing around your setup, that's an important consideration.

If I was in your shoes I would probably get a Onyx 800r. That will probably hold its value better than a souncard and give you really clean preamps. Or Digimiax FS. They are going pretty cheap right now, about 5 or 6 bills. Another cheap option is the Presonus Firepod, those are currently selling for around $400 on Ebay. If you want fader controls, you could get a Behringer BCF-2000 and automate the channels that way. I tried the Mackie mixer + soundcard thing, didn't like all the wires and it thinned out the sound somewhat; tried the Onyx mixer (probably like the Phonic) and didn't like the output routing but loved the sound.

Right now I use a Yamaha i88x ($300 new Ebay) and Rane DMS-22 dual preamp ($125 new Ebay) and I like these alot; now I have the freedom to shop for other preamps as I can afford to, or borrow/rent good ones for a session. Variety is goooooood.
