Middle Atlantic MDV-DSK

I'm currently in a return dispute over another item I bought from that particular retailer, so I'm hesitant to recommend them. However, a quick google search will turn up loads of Middle Atlantic distributors who are selling them.

I have the same desk as a part of my setup as well.. I have quite a bit more pieces though... I scored my desk setup on Ebay on some buy one piece and get everything else free type shit... I won a rack case for $125, and had to pick it up, and when I got there the dude said just take it all... Got 2 desks, rack case and a Rack Box (Don't recall the actual names of the rack units).... Well over $1000 worth of stuff.

hey .. 500's are pretty cheap. people buy them and dont like them so they sell them. Sometimes you see them going for under 300 bucks used.

I wouldn't mind owning one, but I just dont like the 12 pads bit...

the 2000xl is a great machine, but it will be garbage if you are a garbage musician. Same goes with any of the equipment in this thread.

Hahah yeah and the mad thing is for the price of a new 500 you can get a used XL which offers a lot of advantages over the other machine for one it feels better and has a nicer work flow.

Still my fave MPC. Not to new skool and not to old skool some where in the middle lol
I love the 60 and 3000 but don't think I would pay the mpney they are going for now seeing as i'm not pro and earning money from making music..I don't like the newer MPC's (bar the 4000)..don't know why. If I cant make good shit on the XL a new one or old one won't make the blindest bit of difference, it's all about how you work what you got be it 500 or 4000

A lot of people I have seen don't even sample in the 500 but transfer it from pc to like a CF card or some thing cos the small screen on the 500..one line display is a bit annoying.
But to name a few...
8 Out's + Stereo out, Digital I/O, nice feeling pads, good easy work flow that is very quick..you can do it all in the MPC easly without getting a headache looking at a 1 line screen..etc etc 2000XL can have a CF card slot if you wanted
You don't need 128MB or ram..I still havent even got round to ever running out of 32mb on it. On a rack sampler is a different story.
But here is the rub for the new price of a MPC-500 (400GBP in the UK) I managed to get a MPC-2000XL AND S-3200XL for the same price...now the pro's are too much

Don't think the MPC-500 is a bad machine at all...but unless you were straped for space/needed the 500 for it's unique features > size/batteries etc I would go with one of the other MPC's or just buy it used instead of new and save

I love it, can't get me away from it  I wanted one since 2001 so when one came at the right price I went for it quick, it actualy belonged to a producer named Slacker who made a few classic dance tunes on it in the 90's.
I previously had a S-2800 few years back which was cool but sold it when I moved to using Logic with the EXS-24 but missed it quite a bit.

You can't see it propperly in that pic but it does have some rack rash and there are some scratches on top too, one thing it needs though is a new backlight

Naw I just thought it was funny because moments before I checked this thread I went through that "Why is Scarface in every studio" thread.

I dont think theres nothing wrong with having Scarface in the stu. Whatever sets the mood to make good music is perfectly fine.

Sh1t... I got Mr. Potato Head, Ninja Turtles and Perfect Dark right over my LCD.

With some WWII posters aswell.
