It was like $200. But I had a gift card from xmas, so it didn't hurt too bad.

or if you wanna spend a bit less, instead of the 5x5 Expedit from IKEA you can get the 4x4 version or the 2x4 version... i've had both the 4x4 and the 2x4 shelves for a while now and can vouch for them as far as them holding up while full of records.

Funny thig you mention. Its off an old beatup stanton mixer a friend of mine found in a dumpster along with a Gemini PT2000 turntable. The mixer was trashed so I just gutted it for LED's and headphone outs, I might build a DI box soon. The knobs were a perfect fit, and the slider cap only needed to be gutted. I got an extra set too, all because I know a dumpster diver.

Egg crates do nothing except spread salmonella. I hope they were pasteurized eggs.

Diffusors have positive effect at around 8ft, even if they were auralex, it would spread reflection, but if you're recording that close to it it would still get picked up by your mic. It might absorb some reflections, but a pillow or curtains or a comforter would also.

Super Mario's the Shit!! I've been all over that new wii version.

WHen you see studios with auralex foam or bass traps plastered on the walls, the main purpose is diffusion/absorption of sound waves so when you are recording, mixing so you don't get inacurate frequency representation due to bass build up and broadband reflections. It also cuts comb filtering and flutter echos(think of a tall stairwell). Just to be completely honest, the eqq carriers do nothing beneficial. You'd be better off throwing up a comforter against your wall. Plus it looks like you have eqq carriers on your wall. Maybe paint them black if it's for looks.
