I had my mbox on a amd xp system 2800 i think. What you should do is go to www.digidesign.com and check out the forums, cause you you plan to use a pc they have a STICKY POST that tells you everything youll need to look into from building a computer for pro tools to just getting one from the store.

my mixing envoirnment sucks. dope ass monitors in a huuuuuuuuge open room. unfortunately, thats my set up just because of living arrangements. so i just get my beats to bang as much as possible on the mpc, then track em out and bring it to the studio for eqing and mixing.

i work opposite. than mentioned earlier. i used to just record 4 bars, then loop and shit but i found that sometimes i wasnt precise and honestly, i found it annoying to just click, paste, cut and drag. tedious shit.
now ill take a few loops, convert them to songs. work with like 3 song loops for the full track, so yea it takes me about an hour to record a full beat but i can do it while im on the computer just chillin.

i dont mess with midi syncing either.

ill sequence my whole song out in song mode. then ill insert one bar with a high hat on the first beat for every track that ill record.
every bar will start with the same exact high hat but it happens exactly one bar before the beat starts to play. after you record every track, just line up the high hats and your beat is in sync. then erase the hats.

for the price of the mbox new, you can pick up a second hand 001. and as keys said, you have that 8 out/ in option, gets things going, and dont bottle neck your creative flow. tracking one channel at a time is frustrating and loooong, after a time, dont look at things short term, always focus at least 6-8 months down the line . i tried tracking out the mpc one at a time into pro tools free, after a day, i said this is a joke, if you got your homies working with you, one producing, one engineering and so on then cool, but you one!!!!. trust .
just think long term (remember that.)

Well i'm runnin a custom PC, thats what i'd advise u to do... not a REQUIRMENT, but a definite help... get EXACTLY what u want with a lot of room 2 expand

HELP I cant get my soft synths to play in reason, ableton, or protools. I just got a radium 49 and im using the usb port any advice would be appreciated!?

Lets start with Reason, from there if you still need help setting it all up in PT just post back or PM me.

Open Reason and click on the Edit tab> Preferences> go to the Midi page> select your midi device.

This should work assuming you have the correct midi drivers installed and have your soundcard hooked up correctly. If your midi device isn't showing up on the midi page then try uninstalling the Radium 49 and reinstalling the drivers.

check it, ive recorded my 808 kick(2 bars) to ptle via mbox. ive copied to 16 bars and now at the end of every 2 bars i get this nastee click does anybody know how to remedy that or would i have to record again

You're getting the click because the point where you edited the wav file was not at zero crossing. Zoom in to the edit point and you'll see that the point where the wave file is cut is not at the zero crossing point(the line in the middle), you can also create a fade to keep the file from clicking. Refer to page 198(maybe 189) in the Pro Tools Reference Guide for more details.

If you want Pro Tools on a desktop, best buy would be either a Digi001 or a HD system. The Mbox uses USB 1.1 (SLOW!! Unstable!!). The DIGI 002r and 002 uses both Firewire connection, this is better but not as good and fast as PCI. (HD and 001 is PCI)

Best buy would be a RME Multiface with PCI card! Buy Logic or Nuendo and you're ready to rock! But then you cant use Pro Tools. PT= fast and easy audio recording and editing, VERY stable Rewire engine. Downside, RTAS plugins use to much CPU. Search the DUC ( http://duc.digidesign.com/ ) for DAVEC test and watch the results and compare systems. Also watch the ""best desktop system"" (PC-section), page 1.
