it's funny you say that... because I have heard the same thing but the other way around... motu being solid and rme being buggy

MOTU solid, and RME buggy? really? Funny indeed. I have had some serious issues with a couple MOTU devices. But what works rock solid for one person might be a disaster for someone else. Different system, specs, different this, that, Etc... I have heard a few people have had decent results with MOTU. But I have heard countless people having exceptional results with RME. Personally I have had it with MOTU. I'll see how the RME Fireface UC works out for me though.[/quote]


exactly... different devices act different on different machines. personally I knew someone who got the ultralight motu for her first gen intel mac.... could not for the life of her get it to work. I dont know... I wasn't even able to help. I couldn't even tell how she installed the stuff from the CD because she no longer had it and I basically got fed up once I couldn't figure out how to uninstall it.... her machine was a mess.

but anyways, I haven't heard much on motu vs rme... this was a tech dude who was talking about it. He had issues with fireface and had no issues with MK2 or 3... it wasn't something I have heard a lot or anything. these companies have been around the block and both know how to make solid gear.

RME is known for having really stable drivers, however right now many aren't able to use their Fireface's with Snow Leopard, despite it no longer being a new OS. Just thought I'd let that be known to those who do not know. MOTU drivers are average....more stable than Digi and M-Audio, but if your MOTU interface is working, let's just say don't update drivers unless you really need to. I left MOTU gear a while back, but they're a good company....even replaced (not repaired!) a broken 828mkII I had a long time ago in less than a week, and it was out of warranty. Their interfaces also work with Snow Leopard, for what it's worth.

I wonder if companies still make new pci based interfaces... or is that a thing of the past... not that I have done any research on it at all or anything.. personally I wouldn't go down that road because my computer is picky when it comes to pci cards and things like that. even some USB interfaces my computer doesn't like. I installed an m-audio small interface on this desktop and it got pissed off... where as it runs ultra smooth on the portable (which is why i bought it because it needed a sound card besides the shyte internal one)

I never had any stability issues with my fireface 800, but I just didn't like the sound (not for me) to each his own, try before you buy..or try and sell on Ebay

The Fireface UC supposedly is right up there with pci, performance wise with buffer sizes down to 32 samples. I also think the way they implemented the USB on the FFUC to reserve a certain amount of resources to itself. Still probably isn't a good idea to have you're printer, keyboard, mouse, card reader, etc... plugged in.

man i am surprised nobody is using pci express... unless they have been hahaha and I am really far out of the loop! music computers dont need dual sli video cards so often there might be an unused slot that possibly could be used for that. but than again, I have no idea if that would be possible... because I have never heard of the second pci-e slot being used for anything but video cards... I dont know.

most companies have at least one pci-e interface.
