Which 15" Macbook Pro?

Its going to depend on your DAW but they all have the ability to designate where your recording will be stored. Rule of thumb is to keep the operating system on a different drive than the DAW and you will get great performance. A lot of the stuff that I record at the studio is mixed at home on a little mac mini with only a GB of ram. This is fully tracked out beats, choruses, plugins etc. The external FW drive takes all the pressure off the main drive.

Thanks for all the reply's peeps. I ended up getting the 2.4ghz 15" i5 as i dont think the extra $500 is worth it for the i7, plus i dont do any video editing so I dont need the extra ram on the video card..

Man it is niiiiice having a macbook! Just gotta get my head around using Logic now...

Hey Pound: I know you're talking about a firewire external hard drive but I already own one of these:

How do you reckon that would be for recording to? Or would the speed of usb 2.0 not cut it compaired to FW?

You can try it but it may not be the best suited. I never have problems with the speed of the firewire. Couldn't get it to work right with the USB tho.
