Intel Mac Pro

Not true at all.

Lots of cats here rock Intel-based MacBooks or MacBook Pro's.

Better than being rooted to one spot with the larger machine.

I'm not sure I will ever buy another tower computer now I have my MBP.

When it's hooked up to my 22" monitor I get the desktop experience, but it's good to go when I chip round my girl's house.

I couldn't be happier with it.

Anyone who buys anything except the bare-bones hard drives and memory from Apple, or any manufacturer for that matter, deserves the idiot tax alluded to in that graphic. That image is grossly inaccurate, even for Mac Pros that out spec the one being portrayed. Also, a comparable workstation running Linux, Unix, BSD or Windows Server 2008 R2 from the likes of Dell, HP, Sony, SGI, Oracle/Sun and even specialty turnkey solutions (the top SW Creation Station, for instance) comes out to be around the same as a Mac Pro. If you can't tell the difference between a Mac Pro or equivalent "PC" workstation and most consumer built PCs, you might have too many neon lights in your chassis. I'm kidding. However, since it contributed so much, monitors used for professional editing and graphic design cost much more than the Apple displays...and the ones they show on the PC side are little more than budget monitors that can't make even porn look anti-aliased. There's a difference (hint: Xeon, fully buffered ECC, space echo...) but we all know we can't have this conversation without people interrupting us and turning it into a misguided argument, so. Not everyone wants nor needs a Mac Pro, nor even a workstation though. For those who built a great computer that fits their needs, especially if they stayed in their budget, that's awesome.

To the original poster. If you bought your G5 in it's prime, you already know what a Mac Pro is like. The Mac Pro is just a descendant and tries to capitalize on the same bracket, except today. They're good machines. It's OK to be happy, excited, and pleased with your preferred purchase. Enjoy it.

I was going to say the same thing. The Apple branded LCD monitors are totally optional, and I don't think Apple sell good monitors anymore. You can use any LCD monitor that has DVI input with Mac Pro.

The line, PC "Can become a Mac", is misleading, as there is no guaranty that Hackingtosh would work without compatibility issue.

Tracking out to my mac right now because my recorder has not came in the mail yet..... good so far with Audacity.

I have been a PC building and user for years no problems.. Never anything I could not do. I got the MAC to build my credit back up. Its cool but I could do with out it easily. But imma use this thing lol.

I aint gotta tell you a **** thing to be honest. I own macs, they work I can afford them....period. You dont like them suit yourself. They might be just fine when you're doing one song every six months in your bedroom, but in a real studio that PC shit is what the girls use to surf the net and play farmville . I make my money on macs.


I hate whenever an apple thread comes up somebody wants to come with the bullshit. The OP was pretty clear in his request. Nobody asked for bullshit comparisons

Im upgrading to a Mac Pro from a G5...Im wondering what should I expect from this machine, The Mac Pro Im picking up has 8GB of RAM, and 1TB of HDD space, Im guessing that with 8GB of RaM, my possibilities are endless...I can run all my machines simultaneously and record vocals on the G5 no problem, does anyone have a Intel Mac Pro? You have this thing where you feel you are owed an explanation, you are extremely mistaken. If you think your comparison is accurate your allowed to daydream all you want. But on this side of the fence, I know what I have, and I know it works every time. What is there really to explain? If you want to start a thread of your own and have 1000 back and forths over the mac PC debate go for it. But I still wont try to justify anything. Because I make my money on Macs....
