New apple imacs are out.. trackpad?

excellent. been waiting a couple of months for the new imacs.

i don't like the wireless mouse, kboard and trackpad. it's just a waste of batteries or a hassle keeping them recharged. plus i don't have any need for them to be wireless - i never feel the need to walk around the house with my keyboard.

I'm just going on the trackpad on my laptop, which I really like using. I've bought a dedicated controller for Cubase, so that should take some of the fiddly editing out of the equation. I also want to get a Cubase specific qwerty keyboard.

Just looking forward to having everything set up how I want it now.

Yeah I can imagine the trackpad being difficult for close editing, I find it hard enough to press the right buttons on an iphone!
Sorry I don't know much about them but is the cubase keyboard a normal keyboard but with coloured/labeled buttons? or does it have extra features?
Good effort on getting it how you want, mines still a distant dream.

I'm too used to wireless that cables running over the place gets on my nerves.
I find it good because if I go in the room next door I can still listen to music using the volume and skip functions on the keyboard.
Also with the mouse I can sit across the room on the sofa and zoom in to see the screen without getting up

It's a standard keyboard with shortcuts printed on the keys, but the one I want also has a few extra USB sockets. I'll need a keyboard anyway because my laptop will be on a stand just out of arms reach, so it makes sense to buy something dedicated to the software.

That does look well useful! I'd probably invest in the Logic one if I started using it more, I know very few of the shortcut keys. At the moment I only use it for recording finished tracks off of the mpc and mastering them.

The normal mac keyboard is too thin for usb sockets so I'm always leaning over the back of the screen to find them, thats probably its main disadvantage.

The only downside of moving to Mac so far has been the F Keys not working as I'm used to. Probably due to their functions doubling up as screen/keyboard brightness controls, iTunes functions etc, but I'm hoping a separate keyboard will solve the problem. It's all good other than that.

It's in your System Preferences >> Keyboard. Also, you can momentarily toggle it using the Fn key, but it's advisable for most DAW users to just switch the default behavior to the standard way of working, since we use them for DAW shortcuts.

I've been using the Fn key to bypass the standard functions but F12 (CPU monitor in Cubase) wasn't working.

I'll have to bounce between the two setups depending on what I'm doing.

damn, time to get a new iMac. My iMac G4 is mainly used for internet and itunes these days

i brought in store and because i wanted the trackpad (and they dont open the box before selling) they gave me both magic mouse and trackpad for free. biggup them

Reliability and customer support are the main reasons to get a Mac. I've had 4 of them, and both my laptops are out of warranty. The power supplies stopped charging, and Apple replaced them for free. My Ipods headphone port stopped working ONE DAY past the 30 day warranty, and Best Buy wouldn't replace it. Took it to the Apple store and they replaced it. Plus, I do everything on my Macs..music, porn, internet, graphic design, edit videos. No need for one computer just for music, and another for internet. My laptop stays on for weeks (sleep mode at night) and its been working like the day I bought it without any stupid virus software to slow the system down!

Fuuuk apple! I don't see the need to upgrade to the new imac. I have the late 2009 imac quadcore i5. I haven't done anything that my imac couldn't handle yet but its nice to have the bells and whistle

Any preference so far between the two?

@Coz I got mine from PC World, luckily I just walked in and asked for a refund which they happily did. So tomorrow after work I'll go to th'Apple shop and get the new one. It's also £30 cheaper! Very happy about that.

I can't decide if I want the mouse or pad either to be honest, but if they'll throw the pad in because they won't open the box then that's a no brainer. To be honest i'll probably flog the pad if I get it thrown in so you can have first dibbs if you want Coz?
