First of all you have answered 0 of my questions you just keep replying with that Im a noob and whatever bullshit you keep ramblin on about.

Youre a **** noob, read a book and go **** yourself. Did you read this post:

jonestown massacre wrote:So why do you need each individual unit to connect via MIDI I/O to your comp?

You dont, daisy chaining is HOW YOU USE MIDI. Unless each unit is multitimbral with 16 MIDI channels on each device, and you are sequencing 128+ tracks at once, there is no need to be running everything into you computer individually. The only other benefit, as I said before, is if you only want to have some of your MIDI devices turned off in the daisy chain.

Not trying to be condescending, MIDI is a standard and every device implements it in a different way. It can be confusing. The MIDI Manual and your user manuals must be read, especially with the complicated setup you are trying to run.

Also, the MOTU, imo, is really excessive. I recommended the M Audio, because you could sell the MOTU, buy the M Audio, and have about $200 to spend on something else. Ive been doing this a long time, the one thing Ive learned is, NEVER SPEND MORE ON GEAR THAN YOU HAVE TO... If you look at the audio market now, there arent too many manufacturers (if any) making crazy 20 port MIDI I/O boxes like there were 10 years ago, and there is a very good reason for that...

If you list your gear, I can draw you a simple diagram of how I would set it up. But Im almost 100% (+/- 1%) that you are trying to do something that will just be confusing to setup and use, and cost you 5x as much as you need to spend..

Before you replied back??

I gave you the answers, lmao. Id like to meet you in person, just to slap the **** outta you.

345 Canon St Hamilton Ontario come slap me ****

backtothelab wrote:I dont know how midi works yeah. that makes sense. I've already had my studio set up with a daisy chain before you were born.

Damn, you must be one old ****. Plus, before I was born there was no such thing as MIDI, you REALLY dont know **** about MIDI, myself or this forum.. If you already had your **** set up in daisy chain, and didnt reply with the **** reason you want full access, you are a retard. And, You know, YOUR COMPUTER IS AND HAS THE SOFTWARE ALREADY BUILT INTO IT TO BE A MIDI PATCHBAY WITHOUT ANY ADDITIONAL ****??? Dumbass.

Well Jesus after all this bullshit It seems that at the end of your conversation with yourself you actually have a magic answer to my question but arent revealing it. It would of been nice if you would just tell me which software I can accomplish this with and how to do it or point me in some direction toward what I want to know.

You have a computer, google is free, right? You want handout, accept them as they are given, dont be a meathead.

2 people asked why a daisy chain wasnt good enough, what gear trying to set up, etc. We try to understand what you are trying to do, and you try and clown us??? MIDI works a certain way, and youve admitted you dont understand it. Why the **** should we help you?

Like I said, many people here have the answers many of YOU are looking for. Treat your elders (in knowledge as well as age) with respect, and you'd get some back, but youve disrespected everyone here whos trying to help you.

Edit: **** dude, youre a retard for posting your address, Im in Edmonton, but my fam live in Hamilton on Ontario Ave.... But Im not willy enough to send em to hurt some teenage forum geek who dont know how to use google.

in an effort to bring this back on topic...

I would basically just like to be able to controller my many synths from my mpc and sequence them with my mpc without plugging and unplugging midi cables every time. I have a mpc 2500 with jj os xl.

To do that, you do not need 9 midi ports. the mpc is only going to be able handle at max 64 midi channels (4 midi outs X 16 channels each), so you are not gaining anything by using more output ports. you dont need to 'patch' anything in software, you simply change which output/channel your mpc tracks are sending on.

your motu software is probably the best way to configure your device like a 'patchbay'. It might have an 'all ports' or 'all channels' option, which would do maybe what you are asking but might be totally worthless...as now you'd be restricted to 16 channels max.

If we understand these things, it's a lot easier to point you in the right direction. I've asked you a couple clarifying questions to try to get a better understanding of where you are going with this.

1) why is each instrument using it's own set of midi ports?
2) what is your end goal? you said 'control many synths' and 'patch it like i do in ableton'.

At this point, from everything you've said, what you want to do can be achieved entirely within the mpc, provided you have your equipment connected the right way.

good luck i hope this helps.

I thought you needed help? I wasnt trying to impress you or anyone else here.... And I didnt even clown you to begin with, lmao.

So what now? youre just gonna use google? lmao....mission accomplished! Read up on this shit, its the least you can do after you spent money on all that gear.

Actually, Why dont you head down to long an mcquade, trade your all your shit in (escpescially the MIDI interface you have no idea how to use) and take the money to buy copius amounts of drugs you can OD off of.

I can clown you all I want, you wont affect me know why? Because I know my shit, and when I have a question, I dont ask someone, I go find the **** answer. We are in the information age after all and google is free. Call me a know it all, ****. You know what....I know quite a bit, but when I dont know, Ill be the first to admit it. But when someone is trying to help me, I wont ever disrespect em. Learn some **** manners.

You probably raised by your mommy with a deadbeat father... All the kids are like you nowadays. Raised by a **** to act like a ****, even with the tiny little dick swinging between your legs.

How many times can you reiterate the same thing??? He should be daisy chaining his gear, the motu is WAY more than he needs.

what I did was I opened midi ox and went to midi routings and it has a picture of all my midi ins and outs and you just draw a line to the ins and outs that you want to use, you can use as many as you would like attaching them any way you like. a software midi patchbay. I think I had that right Idea in the first place I was trying to run midi to my s900 but I forgot I didnt have the midi in cable from the s900 to the interface thats why it was wasnt working and why I asked the original question. thanks for the help guys
