What's a good keyboard to go with...

Okay. So my choices are narrowing down to a Korg Triton (series?), Roland Fantom and a Roland v-Synth.

I'm planning on taking a trip to try a few of these out. Does anybody have a list of the top 5 keyboards that I might need to try out or take into consideration.

Also, does the Ensoniq ASR-10 still hold it's own to these new model boards? So many people use the ASR-10, but I'm thinking they stick with them because it's what worked for them. Or do they stick with them, because the ASR-10 has more to it than the newer ones?

2 differant boards man. The asr comes with no sounds, just like the mpc. Yeah you can buy lots of asr sample disks, and i think there is a rom you can install, but triton is straight up loaded with sounds.

I think you will like the mpc triton combo. Triton extreme is nice. And if you ever have to give your mpc back, and will have some down time with no mpc, you can still use the sequencer and sampler on the triton extreme.

I know roland was just trying to get their game right....while korg tries to cover all market and shiz........

the triton extreme is exactly the same as the original one, its just up to date with compact flash, usb, more stock sounds(but not all of them). Same shit though.

But i think the differance come down to what pcgs are actually used. I dont think there is "every" sample on the preinstalled cards on the extreme. If you where to load the triton studio with all the cards, you will end up with more sounds than the triton extreme. THEY SHAVED some SAMPLES.

Plus shaving the hardrive is just a shame. Saving all my pcgs and seq to cd is so nice too.

people stick with what works for them. it's all about preference. i know some cats that own triton studio and their tracks sound like booboo. it's some cats with an asr. it's all about the user. just go test the boards out and decide which one feels the best to you. you're going to get a thousand different answers because everyone has an opinion about what the best board to get.

Since the last time we've posted, I've done ALOT of research. I've watched the video for the Roland Fantom X model and almost cried. That thing is amazing. I've decided that's the keyboard for me. It can do SO much. I'll probably get the X7. So now I'll be saving every penny and nickel to get that keyboard.

good choice. stick with it.

after you have it for a while...if you get sick of it, or it lacks inspiration....learn to learn more about it.

Dont give up on it because there is always more to learn. And....dont let "hype" of new gear make you dislike your trusty keyboard; you can always add expansion boards, use its sampler.

and

Learn how to design your own personal patches.

AND start from the beginning a good system of saving your data files (be organized) I.e. on my synths, i save my patches with a EZ at the beggining of the name...so i can instantly identify that i altered the patch, so i dont accidently overwrite it.

also learn its sequencer even if you still use the mpc...just in case you get stuck without the mpc. and so you know your board better.

I went to a GC and tested the fantom x and motif es, i was really messin wit da motifes cause dem guitars and da ARPEGIATORS on dat piece were fire. I didnt mess wit da fantom as much as I should have though. The pads are nice and the interface was hot to def. I think when i go back ill mess wit da fantom more but the motifes had some bangin drum kits for hip hop and da 808s were fire. the fantom seemed like some of its kits were like mid90s r&b ish so i really dont know somebody guide me

fantom is xr is a nice alternative to the x7


its pretty much the same thing minus the onboard sequencer. but since this is the mpc-forum i assume you already got a sequencer in the form of an mpc. unless you need keys/sequencer?

On da Triton Extreme da drums are POOPOO indeed, da drum kits in da motif are just lovely and da guitars too, da violins are hot to def too
