It really is only about 20 instruments. U can edit each one and totally change each sound. It is a good module if ur short on cash. If u have the money, mos def go with a triton or motif rack.

IF ITS YOUR FIRST MODULE, SAVE UP THE MONEY AND GET A HEAVYWEIGHT, THE TRITON OF MOTIF WILL DO YOU FINE THEY WILL BE HARD TO LEARN BUT MASTER ALL OF THE FUNCTIONS AS THIS WILL BE YOUR WORKHORSE SOUND MODULE, AFTER THAT GET SPECIFIC CHEAPER MODULES THAT WILL GIVE YOU GREAT SPECIFIC SOUNDS TO ADD TO YOUR ARSENAL FOR INSTANCE MO PHATT OR ROLAND JV'S WILL GIVE YOU HOT DRUMS SOUNDS SOME MODULES WILL HAVE BETTER GUITARS SOME BETTER PIANO'S THEY ALL HAVE DRAWBACKS SO START WITH AN ALL AROUND WORKHORSE THEN ADD MODULES THAT HAVE GOOD SOUNDS THAT THE ONE YOU HAVE LACKS, YOUR MUSIC GENRE AND PRODUCTION STYLE WILL HELP YOU DECIDE WHAT TO ADD, BUT FOR STARTERS GET A "BIG DOG" AND MASTER IT'S FUNCTIONS LEARNING HOW TO LAYER, EQ AND ADD FX WILL GET YOU BY AS YOU BUILD YOUR MODULE COLLECTION.

If your looking for Motif sounds, and you already have an MPC, I would skip the motif, and check out the Motif Rack, or the yamaha s90. The s90 is the same as the motif (same sounds, plus has a triple layered piano) and costs 500 bux less than the Motif. The major difference is that the s90 has no sequencer or sampler, but you already have those in the MPC. Even though I love the drum sounds in the motif and triton, nothing beats wax.. snd I still d.i.t.c for those ill kix & snares that are impossible to find in a module.
