But it is a viable option if you're on a budget. Don't forget, the person that started this post was looking for samples, not an expensive module. I'll write a drum loop in ReBirth then export it as a perfect length looped WAV file and be able to control tempo precisely. If EQed correctly, I would dare someone to tell the difference in a mix. The pros outweight the one con when you're on a budget. Believe me, if I could spend more, I'd buy the "real thing" too (I'm into fashion and looks when it comes to something that I'm going to pay that much money for).

Plus, isn't the JoMoX XBase09 a 909 emulator and like $1000?

some cool features too. But the 808 just tkes to effects like no other machine, not sure why.

Rebirth sounds good though, all their sounds are nice;y eqed and have nice compression on them so they snap real tight.

The 808 is great, but it is probably the most under used piece of gear in my setup (well, since I got my 60!)

yo if you use that sound i sent you with some of these techniques you probablly can get what your lookin for and to it i get a good boom with this sound.

i found some, someone send me a pile of 'em, thanks. they're humangous wit no distortion! sound perfect in the mix.

hey im not knocking Rebirth i guess we got a bit carried away waxing lyrical about the merits of 808 sounds.

the XBase is marketted as a 909 clone but its simply an analog source drum machine.

the 3 voice polyphony isnt a problem... how often do you have more then 3 drum sounds happening AT ONCE? in any case, i use it as a sound source in conjunction with extensive samples.

the really cool thing about the XBase09 however is its midi functions. there are realtime analog controls over each drum sound, just like the 808/909, but each of these are remembered by the sequencer PER STEP

whereas on the 808/909 you moved a knob to change the sound, and that was basically the Sound...

...on the XBase09 you can have the drum sound change each step of the pattern/sequence. in other words, the first step the kick drum could sound like an 808, then step 4 it could sound like a jazz kick drum...

its a really really cool feature and makes it way more versatile then the older roland units, but thats just my opinion guys. oh and its pretty cheap here in australia.

but yeah, make do with whatever. there are SO MANY 808 samples on the net, music, records etc that you shouldnt have much trouble. i wouldnt stress it anyway, bass is bass.

That is a really nice feature. You can do that with ReBirth too, but it's not the same as having your hands on the actual knobs. I prefer hardware over software, but unfortunately I can't always put my money where my mouth is (so to speak).

It's always good to have some heated debates on this forum. It gets everyone thinking outside of the box.
