I bought a 2500 and then made the same mistake again with the 5000.

i got some inheritence(5k) and i spent AU3500 on this kit, i wish i bought a 2nd hand acoustic kit instead for ~1500. don't get me wrong it's awesome but after using an acoustic kit at a recent gig (only kick, snare, floor tom, hats, ride, crash) they have such a more natural feel. i used to have a cheap impact kit done up pretty well, sounded dope, paiste cymbals etc... untill my bro stole it and took it to a share house when i was like 16. never saw it again, that was messed up..

i need the hihat stand upgrade and you can buy better pre designed sound sets which are supposed to be really good, but no money for now..



i bought this a few weeks before i got the td9, it was fun and did make some thick sounds, but just made me want the radius for the multi timbre. i gave it back to the store and used the 1249 credit on the kit so it was ok(that was the plan).



i don't regret buying this, but i spent too much on it, after i already had a 2500jj for over a year. i just wanted to see the hype 1st hand, and i did. i bought it for $1400 locally off ebay, fully maxed out w/zip.. i got fast on it but it freezed frequently during a heatwave and stopped using it. i got the expensive card reader off mpc-stuff too.. i don't know if i could sell it though, costs me around 1600. i'd sell it for 1200 or something. find another sucker like me..

I wouldn't say horrendous but you can adjust the sensitivity of the MV's pads. But yeah... it is different feel coming from banging on the 2000XL's pads vs the MV's pads.

Hardware:
MicroKorg Keyboard... I hated those dinky keys
Korg PadKontrol... I know people love it... it just wasn't my thing
Akai MPD-32 (Returned it same day)
Radikal Technologies Spectralis... I really wanted to love it, but just couldn't devote the time to learning yet another piece of kit
Korg Electribe ESX/EMX - Yeah I know, definitely good kit but just not a good fit in my studio
Korg MS-2000 - Good sounds, plenty of community support... but never felt it was "great"
Garbage cables... I am sure you can think of the brands, most of these use poor manufacturing processes and near impossible to repair
Sony MDR-V700... these headphones kill my ears for long uses. Sure DJ headphones... different usage... but can't a guy have both?
Technics SL-DZ1200 pair... For straight up playing much nicer than lugging around the extra weight in vinyl/turntables. For any scratching/artistic uses on a lot of stuff gets you to artifact/glitch city. And not in a good way.
NI Kore... Was hoping for something more universal/central to my studio, and instead got a turd with subpar software

Software:
Sonar 2-5... though I know people love it, I switched to the Mac and cannot use it now
Fruity Loops... wasn't a fan of the workflow/interface
XPhrase... looked awesome with lots of potential, but no longer supported :/

At least I was able to sell off a lot of that stuff and get the gear I have today that I am happy with. Software is still kicking around... and I'm pretty sure will never have any vintage appeal

Gotta be the MPC500 as my first MPC. Went back to the store next week later to return it and copped the MPC1000 instead and that made all the difference.

The HS50M's. Compared to my mackies they were just not really worth it. I returned them and got the 8"s. Way better/

The Unitor8 MK-I (non USB). I got a really good deal on it on ebay cuz the guy didn't know what he had. I paid like $40 for it. But my brand new computer didn't have a serial port, so it was a hassle to get that shit working with my gear. I ended up having to take my old ass computer from 2002 out in the studio to connect to it and program it. Luckily, the thing doesn't need to stay connected to a computer to function the way you program it. Otherwise it would be useless to me. Still though, for all the hours wasted to figure that shit out, I shoulda just not have been cheap and bout the MK-II with USB!
