Whose got rid of their MPCs ... and what for ?

mpc for life...

I replaced it with MPD18 + Kong from Reason.

Damn... Not that many MPC users on the MPC forum.

You can load .wav files into the nn-xt sampler as well

ahhh shouldve been specific... i was thinking along the lines of redrum... if u can use wav files in it then id try it again... but ive loaded rhodes samples into nnxt b4... its not my ideal instrument to do drums with... but i guess u can trigger it with redrum if u have patience...

I tried most of the softwares out there, abelton reason, cubase etc. And I often get tempted to go and try new products like the maschine but at the end of the day its my Mpc that makes me most creative. + sampling from a vinyl into a computer takes away the beauty of it in some way. It doesen't "feel" right, know what I mean?

Now I think it does. See how many producers use software and get dope results.

i sold my last mpc for an mpd32. using reason for composition and sampling. i just needed to trade in the old workflow for a more practical one (if making $ is a priority, which it is at this point).

i started producing on an mpc, now about 4 or 5 years later i must "sell out" so to speak. computers are the future.

well I got rid of my 2000 classic because the floppy discs were annoying as hell 1.44 mb

then got rid of the 2kxl with the zip drive after I learned that jjos on the 1000 could do the auto chromatic feature that the xl had stock but the 1000 akai os lacked.


now selling the 1000 as bought an akai mpk88 a few weeks ago to use with ableton live 8 & apc 20 and although I thought I would still use the mpc I haven't used it since getting the mpk 88. I don't want to keep it just to say I have it as the novelty aspect wore off years ago.

even put a 120gb hard drive in it max ram and jjos but ableton live 8 is more powerful & flexible

I resisted the software thing but now ableton live 8 mpk 88 and apc 20 with a track pad & mini comp keyboard mounted on the mpk and a monitor sitting on the right side has made my mpk/apc/ableton setup like a hardware/software hybrid neko type thing minus the portability.

also learning electric guitar now too so the hands on music making stuff is covered

Ableton 8 all day.

It was the future 15 years ago. Since then every software dev. is trying to emulate vintage tube warmth, analog synths or the MPC groove/feel. None of them has ever come close.

Just keep what you have and use what you feel like. DAW producers go hardware because of the sound/warmth etc. etc. and hardware producers go software for whatever reason.

i got rid of my mpc to go the software route, which was reason and motu bpm. i got a MPD 26 to control those actually. but now, i got a mpc 1000 to control them, plus i have the option to use it as a workstation in itself as well, so i ahve the best of both worlds. i can go purely bpm/reason, i can go purely mpc1000, or i can easily use both together in a pretty powerful setup bringing them together in protools. i also have an sp404sx that i can use for more portable applications, or just as an effects box. i recommend this setup if ppl can afford it as it gives u the best of both worlds without having to have a whole lot of gear.
