I've sampled into the 4k also and it's feels great to put the sounds through some 4k tweaks and it does take away from the original sonic sound but it's still very enjoyable.

I've also programmed the 808, audio into interface, no processing and record straight into daw, crystal clear and devistating unmatched by my triton extreme 808 kit samples. (I'm really good at recreating the plant rock bonus beat, one of my favorite beats).

Yeah by the time I got into using the 4k I was too far gone to use it for big drums.
Just was already hooked on the 808 sampled into the SP routed and tweaked on the board.
I still like that sound more so than the naked 808, and this is an 808 with the long decay mod, so it will almost self oscillate.

That would be really...ol skool. Like back in the day when we used MIDI sample dump.

Yeah like the Akai S-series. I remember doing that and also using some really old software on a Windows 95 machine for those samplers a few years ago. I forget how well it worked out. But it was a fun project at the time. I still wish I kept my s950. It really had a lot of character. I used to love resampling 808 kits with it too (but that was best left for the analog input to give it a hotter signal).

Ah yeah, me too! I used to juggle with the bonus beat as well!
I remember DJ Aladdin (I think) cut the records in DMC final in 90s', actually it could be 1989, (the year DJ Miz won)!

I remember aladdin, lol.

I still have a bunch of dmc contests on vhs. invisible scratch pickles vs roc raida (rip) and his crew was monumental.

it doesnt import samples right now. It comes with around 400 samples. I am sure they will implement using a sample as a digi osc. Its already there so if they dont open it some of us will back engineer it anyway. 32 voices? Its an analog synth, I need what you are smoking. BTW it is an incredible machine and plays nice with all its older relatives...

i wouldn't mind hearing that... I know this machine has to have some potential but I have yet to hear anything that I like the sound of. (not speaking about genres, but rather textures and sounds that I could picture using in my own context)

I think many people see it as drum machine, rather than analog synth with sequencer.
I don't know the specifications, but I am pretty sure you can use it like MPC without sampler built-in, so to speak. (I'd like to see demos that showcase Tempest's sequencer ability.)
I don't think specification alone can accurately describe machine like this. I like machines that can do a few things very, very well, rather than can-do-everything machine.
Many people are still so hung up with sampling capability, I think.

you can use just the analog oscs. the sequencer is more like an old school drum machine than an mpc. Lm1 x 808 x Prophet kind of. but it has different envelopes than other dsi synths (and better imo) The seq. is not as robust as a mpc, but its not trying to be that. and I have mpcs that do their job allready. But it bounces like a Linn sequencer. The pads are really good also. Tempest is more made for people that want to make their own sounds and mangle stuff than for preset jockeys, I think.

I didn't know that. So, the sequencer is less powerful than MPCs?

Askia Shaheed wrote:Just finished reading the manual. An analog drum machine wouldn't get much use out of me as I prefer to use my own sounds. My feedback (without ever touching one):
1. 6 voices. Maybe this is ok for Dave's customers. But Roger's customers will most likely want at least 32 voices.
2. Digital oscillators/samples. I would much rather have an actual sampler built in to use your own sounds.

I didn't say or imply that the 32 voices had to be all analog...thus one of the reasons why I spoke about having an actual sampler built in.

I think it would make more sense to run samples through an audio input through the synth's paramters.. maybe it would replace one of the oscillator voices with an audio input... and the actual samples could be triggered via midi or something... cause this seems more like an analogue synthesizer than a sampler.
