You don't need the Maschine controller, yes! it's just a controller, to use the library.

Great reason for using.

Weird, I use my 60 for serious productions. It can't be beat in my opinion.

I stay as far away as I can from computers when making music. Im on comps all day at work, and its the last thing I want to see when Im creating music.

Kind of amazed alot of you guys are still lurking the boards if you dont use ur MP's anymore.

What about the MPDs + Logic + SL 1200? I haven't tried them (MPDs) yet, because I have 2000 XL and Windows. But I think it could be smooth combination.

What I've seen - Flying Lotus uses MPD and for example Kanye West uses 2000 to date.

//

Is there some good option to use 2000 XL with Logic? I'd like to record the whole sequences from XL directly to Logic (with sounds) and edit them there, add some effects on selected track(s). Plus record some synth shit from my keyboard to it. Finally do the mixing and mastering right into Logic. Acceptable? Could it be done like that?

If yes, I going tu buy that Mac.

By the way I would never get rid of my MPC, too .

man, sounds like that mpc got rid of you...

Lol basically!

Damn bro... surprised your tact switches failed already. I'm still going 6 years strong without any failures. But what I find every now and then is that the buttons need to be pushed rapidly when they don't respond. They always come to life. Same for the Evolver.
In the Evolver's troubleshooting guide, it mentions to keep pressing the buttons if the siwtches don't respond. I've been good so far with both units since 2004.
See if it helps. I'd hate to think the newer 1000s have lesser quality tact switches than the earlier models.

I have an MPC 2000XL and S900, I dont use either. I was learning them but switched back to FL Studio 8 with my MPD24 because Im a beast with it. I wont sell them and when I get more table space, I'll try to hook everything I got all together.

recently got rid of my 2500

Fantom g6 does it all for me right now

As far as hardware/software...Here's how I see it,,,

Unless you are so advanced that you can move your mouse better then you can mechanically move your fingers lol. Hardware takes a dump on software in the long run. No latency, no limitation of your computer, faster workflow.. I mean software is the icing on the cake, its not bad to have all the software at your disposal.. but what's faster... ? clicking, dragging then dropping... or spinning a dial? ...duh spinning a dial unless your a master at the mouse but you will end up with arthritis like that using the mouse raise volume, using a mouse click to press play, using a mouse click to edit.. I mean owwww my wrist and hands gets cramped just talking about that method. I have a stiff neck and tired eyes just thinking about sitting on a computer staring at software. Software is all visual, looking at a computer screen, you MUST use your eyes. As far as I know some people know there hardware so well they could create a song with their eyes close, because they use the sense of FEEL, not the sense of SIGHT. When it comes to all 5 senses and making music I rather have the sense of TOUCH over the sense of SIGHT to accompany the sense of HEARING. I rather use my finger to press play, rather then use my finger to use another finger and my eyes at the same time(mouse cursor) to press play. Software will never surpass hardware in my opinion, music is about entertaining, you might have good music but if you cant work a crowd you are DONE... finished. Now imagine software somehow surpasses hardware, can you picture a band, group, or any performers on stage all standing there with computers? Show me any kind of example of people performing on stage and using NOTHING but their computer. There's ALWAYS %100 of the time some kind of musical hardware along with the computer. Hardware is an essential aspect of the art of music. A computer is just another instrument itself that has it's own purpose. A computer/software is just another link in the chain. A link that is not even mandatory, it's more a luxury, but the best musicians can get the best out both. I think software hasnt reached it full potential, it cant reach full potential unless computers reach full potential. You can even argue that hardware like an mpc or a workstation is actually its own computer just in itself, just a computer dedicated to music with a smaller screen and dedicated buttons, like this argument can go on forever why is it being argued there IS NO END

On a another note, I love to smoke ganja, LATER

I hate to break it to ya, but your fantom is a computer, it has an operating system and runs on all the same internal components.

Yea but the Fantom's computer (internal components and OS) is designed to specifically excel in music creation, pcs and macs are not designed for this. My fantom doesn't waste a bit of cpu usage for internet, doesnt overheat crash or freeze, no latency, has buttons instead of a mouse, and loads and gets through menus super fast just because it's internal cpu was designed to only cater to function on the fantom, my fantom does not have widgets, a clock, calendar, notepad, does not run adobe programs, cant go on the internet, and I'm glad that the fantom isnt built to do any of these things, that puts more of the fantoms internal cpu usage to good use to make music and less wasted power on things not needed or that have nothing to with music production. I flip the switch from OFF to ON and I get straight into a music production operating system.

okay nice post... but it's retarded.

if your computer:
- crashes and freezes cause you dont know what you're doing
- over heats cause you dont know how to keep it clean, or properly cooled
- has latency cause your machine is either old, or not set up properly
- has no buttons cause you're too cheap to buy the proper gear for your computer
- is slow at navigating menus cause you dont know how to use a computer
- is cluttered with "widgets" lol cause you are disorganized or maybe you dont know how to turn off the stupid sidebar
- finds notepad to be a resource hog ... that is ridiculous
- is bloated by adobe programs (god forbid flash takes up that much hard drive space!)
- has a clock.. uh oh! your fantom has a clock too... all computers have a clock

that stuff is your own personal situation and is not what goes on with everyone else... some people have computers dedicated to music, and some people have computers made later then 2004.

sure, fantoms are great, they have good sounds... they are fun to use, less potential distractions if your computer is multi faceted, and maybe you spent years using it so you know it really well compared to other gear.... however it is still digital and is not more reliable then a properly set up dedicated DAW computer because both have electronic internal components and dont last forever.

analog gear such as moogs on the other hand..... can not be duplicated by digital simulation because it is hardware that makes the sound from start to finish.

Exactly. Hardware guys are always talking about latency, mice/ keyboard, etc... That stuff has been fixed twice over. You can get a fast computer for like 400.00 these days. Most people dont use the same computer for the internet and making tracks. Thats a big no-no and can give you a virus. Since they're so cheap, people have 2 computers! the only people who use strictly keyboard and mouse are newbies. Everyone else has midi keyboards, pad controllers, other hardware modules, turntables, mixers, large screens, etc. (its an investment) Just like yall max out the hardware, you "max" up your computer. (more memory, more plugins, more software, etc...)
