thes cd`s are a giveaway with the german magazine groove wich features mostly electronic music.one of the best written in germany imo.
it`s also available for free in some stores but without the cd and a special feature part (italo disco, grandmaster flash, music rooms of lomdon dj`s.....).
they always feature a studio report and record collection...:)

LvngDead wrote:NguoiDuc, I'd love to hear about your music making process. Specifically, how the esx, mpc 5000, and s5000 (or is it s6000) are connected.

I just recently set everything up and will be getting into actually making music in January. I know the ESX and EMX quite good but have to get into learning the MPC and S 5000 and my synths in deep. I wanna get a mobile recorder and a mic soon to start building a sample library and experimenting with recording stuff maybe using amps or fx pedals and whatever.

Coming back to the setup, the plan is to steer everything from the MPC. It's all MIDIed together. The MPC's pads, the M1 and Alpha Juno keyboards as well as the ESX and EMX function as control sources. So I can for example use the ESX's ribbon controller to trigger arpeggio melodies on the Alpha Juno and so on.

I'm probably gonna use the Electribes as simple sound modules and sequence them from the MPC. But there will be occassions where I program loops on them and resample that into the MPC or S5000.

The S5000 is used for natural instruments like piano, rhodes, strings and so on and will be used as a keygroup sampler. I have to figure out all it's capabillities to know what else it can do for me.

It will take some time to cook things up, cause I have to learn and experiment, but I'll definitely post results in the "Your music" category! :D

THat was my best combination right there.
I was banging out better ish with that combo than I am with my MPC4K and 6K for some reason.

You do understand the last batch of SP's are for collectors not users?
The don't have the same analog filters that the previous SP's had, they use a emulated filter circuit instead of the CEM chips.

NguoiDuc... are those slanted shelves also IKEA? I really like how you're using those for gear... that lip on the front of the shelving seems perfect for putting smaller keyboards n stuff. if not IKEA, where are they from?

Is that true with all of the Black SP1200's?

where did you get that info from?

The Emulator III was the only E-mu design to use CEM chips (the CEM 3387).

Although this machine was originally released in 1987, E-mu has reissued them again and again due to popular demand. They continued producing them until they ran out of the SSM filter chips they used, around 1998. It was just too legendary to give up as it was THE beat machine for old-school rap and hip hop! Pictured above is the final reissued version in 1997 with the cooler looking all-black case. With the SP-1200 it's easy and fun to grab those sliders and tune or tweak your sampled drum sounds all around! It is used by Roni Size, Todd Terry, Freddy Fresh, Daft Punk, Phil Collins, and The Prodigy.

Designed to be used as both a drum sequencer and sampler in one, the SP-1200 features a 26.04 kHz sampling rate (roughly half the fidelity of a compact disc) and 12-bit resolution; along with the idiosyncratic SSM2044 filter chips, these machines were fitted with make for a dirty, gritty sound. One of the attributes of the SP-1200 is its extremely small amount of memory---roughly 10 seconds.

You've got some good ideas here, the ribbon controllers on the EMX series are fun to play with. I'm gonna have to mess with these as well. :D

E-mu Systems finally stopped using the SSM designs when supplies of the SSM2044 ran out in the late 90's, and they had to replicate the chip with discrete logic in the final run of SP1200's.
