Another MIDI question

Ok, I hate to bother everybody with another MIDI question but Ive read my little hand book and the owners manuels and I cant find anything:

I have my MPC as the master sequencer, I record a melody on my keyboard on to the MPC(Midi Sequence), on MIDI Channnel one. Then when I want to change the instrument on the keyboard it doesnt save that I want that instrument still to be set up on MIDI channel one, it just goes right along with it and continues to play what ever instrument that I have scrolled to on channel number one. Is there something that I am missing here? What should I be looking for to set up the Midi/instrument?

I dont own an mpc so correct me if I'm wrong, and i'm not sure i understand your problem fully.

Go to the sequence mode on your keyboard and set each instrument to a different midi channel.

Then each midi track you want to record onto the mpc must be set to the right channel so then you could have your keyboard playing multiple instruments when you hit play on the mpc after recording the midi tracks.

so track 1 on the mpc would be set to midi 1
track 2 midi 2
track 3 midi 3
so on and so forth


track 1 on keyboard would be a piano on midi1
track 2 on keyboard would be a bass on midi2
so on and so forth

then again i dont really own an mpc, so i may be wrong but with my personal experience with production equipment this sounds like your problem.

then again i may be wrong alltogether , but its worth a shot.

Can your keyboard play several different patches simultaneously? If so, you should be able to assign sounds to certain midi channels like the gent above stated. If it's not multitimbral, you are limited to one sound at a time.

highlight track 1 and turn the data knob to track 2......then press down with the cursor and highlight drum1 turn the data knob to select midi 2a then select your instrument and you are ready to go........do this over and over until u have finished.

what kind of board is it that you have?

its a Yamaha EX7, I have already put it up on Ebay becuase, the damn thing is so hard to use.

take it off Ebay bro, trust me.

all keyboards are generally similar as far as settings and functioning. you should look at it as a challenge to learn cuz you will only get better. not to mention you will be taking a loss on the price. what are you having trouble with cuz I would like to help and once you learn this one, even if you end up not liking it for some reason, you will have an idea of what to expect in other keyboards and other production equpiment in the future. save yourself the pain..........

I agree with Jonloc, it has some nice sounds in it and you can always tweek to create instresting sounds as well........learn it man, just bite down and do it.....and like Jonloc said, if you run up against any problems just holla back homie
