MIDI latency prob with SB Extigy

My soundcard (SB Extigy) is havin latency problems. Its off by a few ms. I got mad VST instrumentts and I cant use em due to this crap. Anyone got any ideas on how I am to correct this?

ASIO DRIVERS?

SB stuff is pretty crap yo.

1. You need to adjust the buffer size on your soundcard
(set to no more than 128)
The lower the buffer setting the less latency you will get. But if it goes too low you will experiecne crackling etc on audio playback


2. Make sure you have the ASIO driver for Cubase chosen.

3. More RAM may also assist the situation

4.VST Multitrack, under device setup should be using the ASIO driver for your soundcard
And not the default that comes with Cubase.
Devices > Device Setup > VST Multitrack. Click Release ASIO driver in background (and make sure you hjave selected your soundcard's ASIO driver)

5. Turn off extra crap in Windows as far as Active Desktop, Custom Desktop Wallpaper,
ScreenSavers, Power Management.
Make the OS as basic as possible. Custom settings can add on milliseconds on data transfer.

6.Verify you have the updated version of your Sound Cards ASIO driver installed.

7. should get rid of the Windows Messenger, as this program likes to run always in the background. You can open the windows messenger when clicking with the right mouse key on the messenger symbol in the taskbar and choosing “open”. You can also find the windows messenger in the program files folder on drive C. Once opened choose the menu “tools” and then “options”. Choose “preferences” and uncheck all options, especially “run this program when windows starts” and “allow this program to run in the background”. Click on OK and close the program choosing the menu “file” and then click “close”.

8. Verify there isn’t a lot of Reverb on the Patch (instrument) giving you the illusion
You dealing with Latency.

9. What kind of CPU?
What CPU Speed?
How much RAM? These things all matter

10. This is just a few suggestions that may make a difference.

I don't know if I'm correct, but the SB Extigy does not have ASIO drivers. This is an External USB Soundcard.

If you have other USB peripherals connected to your PC/Laptop you might want to disconnect them when using the SB Extigy. The Extigy works on USB 1.0 and it does not have the bandwidth capacity to accomodate the SB Extigy and other USB peripheral at the same time.

I don't know if you have the latest update to the software, but there is an update available to help aleviate some of the latency issues. However, it does not fix the USB bandwidth problem just some software issues.

thanks yo. I got the update a few days ago, but yeah the USB ish is probaly the prob. All the power for these devices are coming from the usb. Good lookin lou.

M-Audio Delta's can achieve 0 latency in some setups.

Your gonna be smashing your head against against a brickwall with a creative soundcard, IT JUST AINT MADE FOR THAT!!!!
