DIGI and Emac question

Which G4 is compatible wit the DIGI 002 Rack and Pro tools...I wanted to get a EMAC G4 for 800 dollars
eMac G4 1000 Desktop
PowerPC G4 1GHz Processor, 128MB RAM, 40GB Hard Drive, 8X DVD / 32X10X32 CD-RW Combo Drive, Built-in 17-inch (16.0 vis) Flat CRT Monitor, Mac OS X Panther v10.3
I went to the didgidesign site they said they have not tested it? Any body run emac wit digi 002
WOuld this be enough to record 8 tracks at a time into prot toolz?

1Ghz is plenty with room to spare. You better make sure the 002 will work with a eMac though.

Since the Digi002 has it's own internal processors on the most part, as long the computer has a firewire port it should be fine. I don't think the eMac is gonna be blazing, but it will work. If you want really good insight, go to the digidesign user conference at:

Make sure the firewire interface is compatible with the 002, if it's not you'll have to buy an aftermarket interface(they're not too expensive). While the question of performance with PT and the eMac is anyone's guess you'll definitely need at least 512mb's of ram for PT.

I did a search at the Digi user forum and found a few people using the eMac without any problems. A couple of comments suggested that it's kind of noisy for studio work but it shouldn't be a problem. They all had one thing in common though, they had to install more ram. Someone also said the Apple store had some deals on refurbished eMacs for around 650.00, you might want to look into that. Installing ram is pretty easy, you just open up the computer(I'm not sure how this is done on the eMac but it should come with instructions) and push the chips into place, I'm sure the literature that come with the eMac gives some kind of detail as to how to install ram as this is pretty common.

As far as PT working with 128 megs, it won't at all, at least not the latest version. Some of the earlier versions probably will but not 6.2.3., I read in the Digi forum that someone only had 384 megs installed in there eMac but I'd definitely go with 512 megs.

From what I've read, it should work. Go to http://www.digidesign.com and click on the support tab> user conference. Do a search for "eMac", choose "newer than 1 month" for the date range and you should get some hits. You might want to try a search dating back further and you'll probably get more hits.

Installing ram nowadays is very easy in any Mac. Takes about 2 or 3 minutes toal. Very easy to do. I strongly uge you to get all of the ram that the computer can handle. Shouldn't cost you too much.

if i get a refurbished imac...im new to the mac....what version of the os does it need to run pt becuz the refurbished imacs already have a os already installed System Software Versions 10.2.7 are pre-installed on the hard drive. OSX 10.3 "Panther" Update CD Were talkin about the digi 002 rack wit the latest pro tools

I think you can download 10.2.8 for free.
You should be able to use that version of Jaguar successfully with PTLE6.12 and 6.22.
Panther is still pretty new.
But, for the most recent version of PTLE, Panther is key.
Check the Digidesign website to be sure.
