studio monitors

can any one suggest any i should check out. i currently have a pair of Samson Resolv 50a

what's wrong with the resolv's?

EMES have a good sound to them i have the Emes Kobalt and im very happy with them

generally what ive learned is that its okay to mix on crappy moniters. why? well the theory is a good mix on crappy speakers means an even better mix on good speakers. i use the classic yamaha NS 10m's because of their flat freq. response. NS10's are rather pricey but dont fret if ur lookin at a cheap set of moniters, get what u can and remember to listen to your mixes in different rooms and speakers (like your car for example)

I am using Fostex PM1's .... great sound at a good price ( about $400 US ).

Give good bass response, expansive mids and sweet tops, with overall good stereo imaging.

Used pair of Mackie 828's I really like the older ones, not the newer ones but the older ones are great for hip hop stuff.

I second the Mackies, I have a pair of the HR 824s, there great!

Kd and JP, I found the Mackie 824 just a little 'muddy' in the mids when I tried them out, with the tops being a little less sharp. I think the newer ones are more 'hi fi' in sound, but with good presence ...

I own, mackie 624's, yamaha hs80m's and some bullsh*t behringers....The mackies are the only ones I trust for mixing. Not the new mackies by the way..I mean the first gen.

What about HS80's ? Love my HS80's they translate well.

Na they ill but I rather mix on the mackies and make the beats on the Yammies.

thems shits are garbage, i had them. too much bass response and inaccurate as **** and muddy.

I'm using yamaha hs50m's they look really good, but I can't trust that the sound I hear on them. All the mixes sound completely different on other speakers.

Perhaps with the subwoofer they'll be more like it but thats £400 extra.

Still, better than using a hifi though.

best monitors: the cheapest and loudest you can get. It may sound silly, but if you're going to use them on a daily basis you want to have something you can replace easily should something happen to them.

KRKs rokits have usually good reviews, and the price seems right. Tannoy reveals don't get too good reviews but some people have used them successfully. Samson seems to me like a brand to avoid, at least as far as mics is concerned, i have no experience with their monitors.

All i said applies more or less in most cases, unless you have a mastering studio or need real critical monitoring, which i assume you don't.
