Pro Tools and Firewire Hardrive

MPC Fam,
I guess this question is really about the firewire more than my setup. It came with a package I had purchased. Its works with the G5. I really need to know What it is? Do I run Pro Tools through it and into the G5 or what? Im a little confused. Appreciate the help.

Install Pro Tools on the G5 internal drive. Use the external firewire drive to save your session, data and audio files.

Appreciate that one ddot. Thats kind-a-of what I thought but wasn't sure.
