MBOX AND PC?

I just got my mbox and before i go out and get a new pc i was wondering if you guys can give me a hand. I now have a dell dimension 2350/p4/2.8 ghz processor, just bought another hard drive and 512mb stick of ram which gives me total ram of 768. i will only run pt and maybe acid on this pc. I checked dd website and got the computer specs, but it seems like its to easy to be able to use what i got and not have to go out and drop mad cash on a new pc. my os is xp home edition. any advice or tricks will be greatly appreciated.

You'll be good for the next 2 years. When the time comes, just upgrade your motherboard and processor, saves mad cash.

If you find yourself hittin' the ceiling while working on sessions there are some basic tweaks you can do to improve performance. I'll probably forget some stuff but I'm sure others will be able to add on to my suggestions.

1. Click on the Start tab> Run> type msconfig> click OK> click on the Startup tab and click Disable All(this will keep all the programs that automatically start running when you boot up from running in the background, there tends to be a ton of these on dell machines, you can always start these programs from the Program menu if you need to. This will give you anywhere from a 10% to 25% increase in performance)

2. Disable all Network cards> Right click on the My Computer icon> Properties> Hardware> Device Manager> Network adapters> right click on your network card and click disable

3. If you have a baccground pic steup on your desktop go into Display Properties and select None as the background. Right click anywhere on your desktop and select Properties> Desktop> (none). While you're in the Display Properties menu click on the Screen Saver tab and select (none) as your screen saver. Click on Power and select Always On as your Power Scheme and set the settings for your Always On power scheme to Never. While still in the Dispaly Poperties menu Click on the Appearance tab> If you want to squeeze as much power as you can select Windows Classic Style, it's not as "pretty" as XP syle but it requires less memory and power(sometimes every bit helps). Click on Effects> uncheck Use the following transition for menus and tooltips: and use the standard setting or uncheck the Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:.

4. Right click on My Computer(again)> Properties> Advanced> Performance Settings> select Adjust for best performance(note: if you scroll all the way down you will see "Use visual styles on windows and buttons", if you selected Windows XP style in the appearnce menu before, leaving this unchecked will automatically setup the appearance in Windows Classic style) Click on the Advanced tab> Select Background services and System cache> click on Apply

As I said at the beggining of my post, IF you find yourself not being able to run enough fx or tracks these optimizations will help you squeeze out some more performance from your computer. Good luck.
