Choices I have about Akai Mpc Series

i used to rock a ensoniq eps <---loved the sound hated the sequencer.

Now I do the Software thing <---- love the flexibility....but i don't feel whole although i have a midi controller.

I toyed with mpc's before in various studios.
but i never created a beat on one.

Today i went to guitar center and played with the Akai MPC 4000,I don't know shit really about the mpc's...

i made a beat in about 5 minutes after figuring out how to start a new sequence.
{i was stuck for about 10-15 mins before i rotated the jog wheel i.e. i tryed everything else}....trying to delete the sequence that was already loaded up.

that shit is something I want,not my main weapon but something to add on to what im doing.

im curious as to what the 4000 has that the 1000 doesn't? besides the outs and storage....anything i will truely miss?

btw some dude was in there trying to front like he made that damn sequence that preloads,he's actin like he's pounding the drums as im walkin up,then stops the beat and walks away.

i shut the damn 4000 off started it up again and the shit was there{i was trying to get a blank sequence to play with}

Im in love with this joint now,and can't stop thinking how ill it would be to add to my current set up!

But which one the 1000 ,2000 or 4000....

~Since u already got all that software and u dont want to have it as yur main piece I would say the MPC 1000 is for u mos def!

whats all this talk about the pads are different from each other?

like the pads on the 1000 aren't the same as the ones on the 4000?

The pads on the 1000 are like half as small as the pads on all the other MPCs.

no not the size,i meant the feel how hard you have to hit them,etc,etc....

really i just don't want to make a mistake ..... i might regret buying "this" machine when i really should of have bought "this" one

Oh, my bad... I dont have any experience with the 60 or 3000, but the feel of the pads on the 1000 is identical to the 2000 (at least to me).

the main differences your looking at between the 1000 and the 4000 (besides more outputs and periferal stuff) would be sample editing capabilities(ie timestretch, a few different effects, zone mapping(although this may come out in future OS updates for the 1000), and it has 24 bit sampling. Pretty much if you are running a PC with editing software you dont need most of those functions and the 1000 would most definately do the trick...

The pads on the 1000 and the 4000 do differ in feel, but it's not an issue...it's the same ish basically. You hit the pad and trigger a sound. THe feel is more cosmetic than anything. But to add on the differences between the 1k and 4k, comparing them side by side...the 4k has a noticeably cleaner and spacious sound than the 1k, and that's when both are operating at 16 bit.

Also the 1k is really easy to operate and learn...the 4k is quite the opposite.

I would keep the EPS and buy an MPC(dont matter wich one) to it.....you would have the nice sound with the nice sequencing of the mpc.

I think i love the Mpc 4000 cause when your recording a sequence that bar the scrolls across the screen......

the 1k doesn't have that does it?

I need to really test them side by side i think,but GC never has the 1k in stock.

another real simple question is does the 4k read wav files?
if i burn a cd-r full of wavs will the 4k read them?

the real big turn off with the 1k that pissed me off is the outputs no track output just for pads.....i don't like that at all. it bothers me everytime i think about getting the 1k.....

but the 4k's price is crazy high....{i dream about this machine day and night,it's been driving me nuts ever since i touched her}

The 4000 . . . . 10 lb.s of sh!t in a 1lb. bag (plus it's so f#ckin' expensive you don't really wanna bang on it) . The 3000 & 60's . . . . collector's items (if you've been in the game long enough you'll know how to freak 'em) .And the 1000 is like my 1st PlaySchool turntable I had when I was 3 . The 2k & the 2kXL are the best sh!t for what you put in . This is just my opinion and as I've said before "It's a poor musician who blames his instrument" . Peace .

how can you say the 2k can compare with the 4k?

im not getting a 2k or a vintage either{no disrespect to any users}

its either a 1k or a 4k? i like that i can transfer files between mpc and pc

The 4k is the best all around. Even especially if you want to use it with your PC. The 4k has a prog. called ak.sys that will make your 4k and your PC act damn near like one unit. But if your getting an MPC just for drums or as a controller or something, the 1000 should be just fine.

And yes you can burn a CD with WAV files and load it up on the 4k. Or with ak.sys you can just drag and drop the WAV files right onto the 4k hard drive or straight into memory.

Also the 4k can play audio CD's so you can sample right of those too.

im going to be a 4k user now to figure out what keyboard/module to get thats decent....not expensive
