what kind of mixer should i get...

i don't want to spend no more than 120.00
basically i need the cheapest one..with the most channels

i've been looking around and i've stumbled across a Behringer UB1002 Eurorack 10 Input Mixer

my mpc2000xl has 8 outs... i have no synth...but i plan getting just one only...

so far.... my set up is just a turntable... goes into an old stereo reciever... the reciever goes into the mpc record in... the mpc main out goes into my soundcard line in......

so for me to get a hot sample...without messing with the mpc rec gain... i have to sample into the pc... save the sample to the pc zip disk.. and load it on my mpcs internal zip...

no, get as many inputs as you can or you'll have to later. Make sure you get one with all mono channels, or else a 12 input mixer will have like 8 mono ins and 2 stereo ins, not quite 12.

My 2 cents - Save a little more and skip the behringers. Go for a mackie or a soundcraft. I hear nothing but horror stories about them.

So if you want to work with a external synth..you will have to get a mixer?
If that is the case.. how do you record sequences/songs and save it onto the MPC zip drive since midi is not a sound?

Yes, you'd will need a mixer. You'd have two sound sources, so in order to hear them out of your monitors/stereo, you'd have two combine those two sources into one. That is what a mixer does.

As far as saving, you'd save the sequence from the MPC on your Zip and just recall the sounds/performance data you used on the synth when you load up the beat.

Theres a way to have the MPC recall the sounds/performance data on your synth for you via MIDI with SySex, but i'm not very familiar with it.

So basically is like having 2 turntables connected to a mixer since 2 turntables are 2 different sound sources? and I guess it goes the same for my 2000xl, and my external synth.

And..wouldn't it make more sense to save finished songs to a multitrack rather than having it saved to a zip disk as part midi file, and part wav, snd or whatever?
because if I wanted to play my song that has been done with my ext. synth, I would always have to have my synth right?

One more.. my synth only has a phono outlet. Is it still possible to hook up to let's say a mackie, or a bhriger mixer?

Its not that it would be "smarter" to save your finished beat to a multitrack recorder, thats just what you do when its time to actually record your finished beat. You would still need to save the sequence data and sounds in your MPC and synth, though (Unless you delete that ish after you mixdown your track, and I dont know why any one would do that... you should always keep that for backup).

By phono, do you mean RCAs? (one red one white)
If so all you have to do is buy 2 RCA to 1/4" TRS adapters at RadioShack and you'll be straight... They looka lika dis:

No. My keyboard only has one 1/4 inch headphone jack as an output.

I was also thinking about going with either a bheringer series, or a lower line mackie with a fostex MR8 multitrack recorder.

What do yall think about that?

i think you can use a phono preamp instead of a mixer.
