Good Headphones

I should be getting my 1k around the end of the month. I wont be able to Use Monitors so I'ma need some good Headphones. This isnt for the mixdown or anything like that, this is going to be for just banging the pads. Would any pair be ok?

Almost any pair will do the job. However, I would recommend a pair of closed headphones, as they filter out the surrounding noise and let you focus on the banging.

I confiscated a pair of Sennheiser HD25's from my dad (he wasn't gonna need them, he's as unmusical as dads come) and these things kick the hell out of any new pair of headphones. These guys must be 15 to 20 years old and are currently like new, after I replaced the ear cushions and the cord. True from-father-to-son-quality.

I would have to say Sony MDR-V700, i just got a pair and they're real nice and the sound is thick.

I'm rocking the AKG 240 studios. They're not closed, but it doesn't bother me because I work (err.. play?) in a very silent environment... Anyway these are THE most comfortable headphones I've ever tried, so if that's an issue to you I suggest you try 'em out.

Watch out for them MDRV700DJ's. They sound great and all, but the coloration is ridiculous, but since you won't be using them for mixing, shouldn't be a problem. Also, them joints tend to break after a while at the swivel point for the earpieces (I had a pair that did it and I worked and Guitar Center where I encountered many folks with the same problem).

Right now I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 280's that are falling apart also (which I don't understand since I don't take them outisde of my aparment, and I am pretty gentle with them, seeing that they cost me a C-note).

The best headphones I could recommend are the Audio Technica M 40's (which are constantly duking it out with the Sony 7506's for best monitoring headphones). They are as flat as you can get and I've seen them in more than one studio. Remember, they're flat, so ish will be sound funny when you use em at first. But they do warm up and will definitely help your music sound better.

Other than that, for listening pleasure, I'm looking at some Grado's. Hit up turntablelab.com for specs and info.

I second the comfort thing. I use MDR-V900's which sound great but my MDR-7508's are older and were a bit cheaper but they are much more comfortable when I have them on for extended periods.
