statik/distortion when running mpc through m box

Whats up people. i just recently got rid of my mixer and started running my mpc/computer through an mbox 2. The problem is that all my old samples are filled wit static and distort when I try to play them, mainly low end stuff like kicks. I have brand new wires and I'm pretty sure its not the mbox because when i play the same samples through the mbox from the computer they found fine. but then when i hook my record player or cd player up to my record into the mpc things distort. My levels arnt that loud either (at least not to the point things should be distorting). Any clue why this might be? The way I have it hooked up is mpc stereo outs to the Line (trs) on the mbox and the speakers going into inputs on the mbox. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

You SURE the gains arent turned up? And the MPC isnt cranked all the way up? Cant think of anything else really without hearing it.

you check the 4 buttons on the back of the mbox?

ok so after a day of messing with my samples, resampling stuff, and messing with my wires i made some progress. If I keep everything really low on the mpc volume but fairly high on the mbox volume, I got things sounding better (although still some distortion). My problem is now my kicks, mainly deeper ones, as well as my 808s. Whenever I play one of my 808s or a deep sounding kick, there is a a very distinct static sound over it. It might be the way I sampled them, but I'm not sure. Anyone else experience this ever?

i don't know about the mbox..

but with my setup (2500 -> alesis fw16) i have the mpc turned all the way up on -6db, making sure that the input thru is OFF, and around -10 on the channel of the mixer(~75-80% to 0). and i get really good results. depending on the beat i adjust levels on the mixer.. then normalize to -2 or 3db.. i'm not using many if any 808 style bass samples though.

is it possible it's a ground issue?

also maybe try having each unit plugged in seperate plugs.. sometimes that helps sound issues (though not quite that particular case in my experience.. but maybe try it)

Or check the master audio level for the mbox. It could be that the nominal settings could be set at +4 instead of -10. It's happened to me, so I ended up pulling up the s/w console for the audio cards and fixed it from there. See if you have that option and try switching it to the lower setting and see if that helps any.
