Anyone using a similar setup? So far I have been going audio out of the Triton and the MPC and keeping my tracks separate into Pro Tools. I am getting the job done, but I know I am not being as effective as I can be.

Can anyone with a similar system tell me what I could be doing better and differently??

Not sure what MTC is, guessing its Time Code.

I haven't been using any midi relationship yet between the MPC, the Triton and Pro Tools.

I was just wondering who else is using a similar system and what benefits they are getting out of it.

If you want to do better with your system, then I'd suggest you get familiar with midi. Plus with anyone that's relatively new to this stuff, we suggest they go here: tweakheadz and soak up all that you can...you're gonna need it.

Personally, midi is actually 60-70% of how I compose my music. The other 30-40% is basically audio that's recorded from what's being played through midi.

And yes, I sync all of my modules (triton rack, kurzweil k2500rs, motif rack es, jv1080, and asr10 via midi clock when necessary. The mpc gets midi time code (mtc) for its sync reference. Cubase SX or Nuendo 3 provides both sync references for me and distributes them to their selected destinations through a MOTU MTP A/V.

If I take my work into Pro Tools via Midi instead of using the audio outs, do I then need a sound module inside of Pro Tools to translate the midi into audio?

Wondering if I need to add anything to this setup in order to incorporate the midi.

I understand that midi is not audio, I have an M-box interface for Pro Tools.

When sending Midi out of my Triton or MPC 2500 into Pro Tools, if the midi simply comes in as midi instructions what translates this midi into audio?

If I am sending midi from my Triton into Pro Tools will it still sound like a Triton or will it sound like a module or device inside of my DAW that is translating the midi instructions?

the audio outs turn the audio into audio
sending midi out of your triton will only send information to your daw of keys to play for how long and when to stop if you have vsti's in your daw itll play the daw depending on how its set up.
the triton sounds will only get sent into your daw from the triton audio outs to your mbox in.

Again, if you ever needed a friend in understanding studio principles, go to tweakheadz. There's no translation none what so ever to get midi to convert to audio.

It's all based on either your DAW being the master sync device that triggers your mpc to follow it, or your mpc being the master sync device that your DAW follows and locks to it's sync clock/code.

Once you've got the sync stuff down, you can then commence to recording the audio that's played from whatever's being sync into your DAW, and thats all it is.

Nothing magical about this slim. Just understand what it is you want to do and take it from there.

i know what you need to do, but i don't know how to describe it in writing. The Triron Midi out should go to MPC Midi In. you have to make a sort of Midi loop. thats what i do but i always have to do trial and error.

When i use my triton though i use my Audio tracks in the MPC to record my Triton midi tracks to the MPC's disc.

this shit is hard to explain. you gotta learn for yourself lol

If you are recording midi from the the Triton into the MPC, does the MPC then play back the midi information but with its own programed sounds and not that of the Triton?

Lamp Dog are you out there?

Yes, it will play back the info which can be assigned to a midi channel with a sound source selected.

Yes, or with sounds from other sources as well.
