Fantom G´s sampling features

Hey,

is Fantom G good for sample-based hiphop? I dont mind that it doesnt have decent pads, im still going to chop on the keys. Someone who has it let me know if its easy to chop with, and what sample editing features it has. Thank you !

As far as chopping samples, the Fantom G inferior to the Fantom X and any of the latest MPCs. Specifically, you can only chop samples into a maximum of 16 parts. Once the sample is chopped, you have the option of creating a sample set (triggered immediately using the pads) which is not as flexible or powerful as a Fantom X/G patch or MPC program. You can't assign these chop samples to patch and keys for further editing while in the sample edit mode.

Any of the latest MPCs or MV is superior to the Fantom G when it comes to sample editing. The Fantom G is limited to Truncate, Emphasis, Normalize, Amp, Timestretch, and Chop. The other samplers I mentioned has twice as many editing functions and processes editing significantly faster. Numerous MPC/MV users have sent feedback to Roland directly and in the forums. But it seems like the consensus is that Roland focused on more of a live workstation and that sampling was low in priority. The best thing about Fantom G's sampler is that it looks pretty.....
