Syncing MPC 2500 to fantom x8 through midi with mpc as maste

I have the mpc and fantom connected through midi. When I change the midi channel from 1a to 2a it triggers the same sound on the fantom. I checked my midi settings on the fantom and each track has its own midi receive channel 1-16. If the fantom is on track 2 the mpc triggers sounds frome track 2 no matter what channel the mpc is on
