disk maintenance/issues

hey guys... not sure where this post should go. anyway, just wondering if anyone has any input on disk storage. i remember seeing the alchemist on youtube about a year ago and he was taking his floppies out of the fridge...

anyway, i loaded up one of my disks at a show not too long ago and a bunch of samples were missing. only had the sequences and smaller samples/sounds like drums, FX, etc... however, the longer samples were still in the folder i made. its just the .APS file wasnt finding the sounds. corrupt PGM or something. im hoping this isnt my mpc...is there a certain temperature for disks to kept in? im pretty sure the cold is best...

im using 100mb and 250mb zip disks in a mpc2kxl

any info would be great.

Follow the manufacturers advice for disc storage and you should be good.

You know, away from excessive heat, moisture, dusty environments, magnetic fields etc.

And be sure to back up important files....

I had a friend that stored all his Zip discs in a case that sat under his left monitor speaker. Fkr always wondered why his Zip discs were always fkd up when he tried to load them.

You also saw what else ALC had in the frig.
He was being more comical than serious, kinda like saying his sh*t was so hot he had to put it in cold storage.

What you really should be doing is taking advantage of the fact you have a XL and get a card reader.
You can't image how much easier you situation becomes when you don't have to deal with anything like floppies, SCSI or ZIP disk.


You will get more of a return from that than any storing procedure.
