Can anyone suggest a good 8-track audio interface? (preferably USB) Almost done with the garage studio and local bands are beating my door down. Also, it would be nice to multi-out my MPC. Thanks so much!

google should be your 7th band member.....sweetwater,musicians friend ,american musical....the list goes on.Motu, m audio.....info is not that hard to find.

I was going for personal experience here, from people who've multi-tracked out an MPC. None of the reviews on any of those sites I found applied to me (latency running vstis, multi-tracking out an MPC). I Googled my ass off before asking here, and I asked here for a reason (some musicians I really respect around here-already doing what I'm aspiring to). But hey, thanks for your input! :wink:

M-Audio 1010LT!!! It's PCI (not usb but hey its less than $200) works great with Sonar and if you can aquire a copy of ProTools M-Powered it will work!!!

Yeah I run sampletank, reason 4 and a lot of waves plug-ins through it! Pound's suggestion is a good one too (Digi 002's go for really cheap now-a-days) but I think you'd get more **** for your buck with the 1010LT!!! Pci has almost no latency!

I do have to agree with the performance of the PCI.

As far as PT, the reason I suggested it is because I used to have a garage-based recording spot. At the time I was using Cakewalk Home Studio. At the time I was using it with a delta 4/4. I loved it. Then we moved to a commercial spot and I realized how impractical it was. When I had clients who wanted to send the material out for mixing and they found out that I wasnt on PT it turned into a headache. Then went I would try to work on a project recorded somewhere else and realize that they were PT session files..again..it was a headache. So I switched. I do a LOT of mixing projects for cats who record from home or other studios. I can honestly say in the past 4 or so years only twice has a non Pro tools format come through the doors. Compatibility is important from a money making perspective

I'll second the 1010lt. I had/have it on my pc. It sounds good, almost no latency(for me) and lot's of in's/out's. Only real con would be that it doesn't have a breakout box and is just a bunch of cords, if you get the reg 1010 it has a break out rack. No worry about pt compatibility if you get the 1010lt or 1010 as you can get pt m-powered. If you want to stay with sonar, my buddies motu 8pre sounds great and works fine for him with cubase, so it's another option.

Im using motu ultralite mk3.its p0rtable has lots of ins n outs,sounds great and has built in dsp eq s(amazing-with a filter also)compressor limiter and a lush reverb.You can set it up in the on screen mixer and then you can use it individually without the puter.cool.check the specs......now comes with firewire and usb 2 together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ??? http://www.motu.com/newsitems/ultralite-reviews

This is great. A lot to think about here. I'm running my vstis on my (no firewire) laptop anyway (spdif out to my MPC), so I might as well build a new tower. My old one is in another place now. Firewire cards are about $14, lol . I found a vst host for PT a while back, because I know the switch is inevitable. I can of course use whatever (PT compatible) interface with Sonar until I get the hang of ProTools. Still, I'd like to multi-out my vstis to whatever DAW. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.....

Sorry, another unfocused question. I appreciate all the advice.



EDIT: So it's TWO interfaces I'm after, then. 1 USB interface to multi-out my vstis from my laptop, and ANOTHER (PT compatible) to multi-in the whole shebang, or whatever local band, into the new tower I must build. BWAHAHA

Well for usb interfaces for protools you're gonna be ****, I mean they work fine, but 2 in's/out's. You have either the mbox 2 or mbox mini. You might wanna look into getting a firewire hookup :lol: .
