How to MIDI 2KXL & MPC1000 Help...

Did a search, and came up with cloudy results.

Pads are on my 1k are dying fast, and I have my trusty old 2KXL with dead rotary encoder yet trusty-soft pads that I want to use. Just wanna know how to connect the two via midi (my midi knowledge is weak, obviously) so that I can play with the softer pads. You can dumb down the directions as much as you need I should understand enough to decipher that!

The help would be appreciated, especially by my fingernails and the skin at the end of my fingertips.

I'll have a stab at it using my general midi knowledge.

MPC2KXL MIDI OUT PORT IS CONNECTED TO MPC1000 MIDI IN PORT.

In this scenario the MPC2KXL effectively becomes a MIDI CONTROLLER WITH PADS (AKAI MPD16), while the MPC1000 takes on the role of THE MIDI/ MUSIC PRODUCTION CENTRE with all sound modules and computers connected to it.

You may need to adjust the pad settings on the MPC2KXL to determine whether they transmit MIDI notes in AUTOCHROMATIC or standard DRUM PROGRAM MODE.

A LITTLE TWEAKING MAY BE REQUIRED, BUT THAT IS THE ESSENCE OF THE SET-UP.
