Some people prefer the mk2 over anything else. For a lot of DJ's it's the holy grail. If you're 'just' sampling, it hardly matters what you've got as long as you have a high end needle.
Having said that I'm sure somebody else will come on here and tell you to use brand x turntable with brand y needle for the best results, but at the level you're at I am pretty sure when getting started it doesn't matter too much.

I find the Technics quite expensive, too. I mean at the moment they are the best DJ turntables audio quality wise. But for spinning imho the Vestax PDX series is much nicer!
If someone is looking for a good turntable to sample from or to accompany a stereo, get the DUAL CS 601 or any other DUAL deck from the 6xx line. They are good, most parts made of metal instead of plastic, good needle (and a replacement costs like 50$). You get the 601s for like 50-80 $, depends. They have been high end in 1978 costing 800 Deutsche Mark when a new car cost like 4000 Deutsche Mark (just for comparison).
I have one in my living room and getting another one for my studio. And a preamp I can only recommend to got with any turntable is this one:
Analogis Phono-Box
Much better than any of the preamps built into most DJ mixers.

I feel like such a scrub using my kaoss pad 2 as a pre-amp since I sold off my DJ turntables/mixer.
Came up with a cool cross fader/scratching technique using just the KP2 though... blew my DJ buddies mind the first time I showed it to him.
