akai s900 of the Akai s1000

what up guys..i can cop both of them for the same price!

i want to use it with my mpc...send it from the mpc through a compressor and sample it on the akai s900/s1000

wich one should i get! plz help a head out and why?!!

What MPC do you have? If it's a 2000 I'd get the s900 for 12-bit sound. s1000 is 16-bit right? The MPC already samples at that rate.

yeah i agree with you s900 will expand my setup..the 1000 wil give me the same thing.

In an MPC, you can resample it to 12bit (from standard 16bit) by going to EDIT, open window, CONVERT, RESAMPLE, 12bit.

I bought an S1000 half a year ago. The displey was very dark - so that you hardly can´t read anything. I gave mine back...
Check your displays first...

I got a s1100, it does not sound like a 2000XL, despite the same sampling rate, they use different engines, the s2000 uses the same engine as the 2000XL, which IMO is the weakest Akai sampling engine out of the whole series, muddy bass and weak snares.

koolsha you use the s1100? can you please tell me what's so good about it? as suppose to sound forge which i like alot?

In my opinion, both the S1000 and S1100 both have a sweet, warm sound. Like all Akai samplers there is something unique about the sound. They just sound warm and round, not angular and sharp. And although they are 16 bit samplers, it surely doesn't mean that you lose anything. They are both incredible machines with great features and tons of support and other products available. No wonder they were the industry standards until Akai dropped the ball.

The S900 is a strong machine too, but it can't really compare or compete. The others have so many more powerful features and the sample extended sample time is very useful for synth sounds and recreations of real instruments. And the SCSI port is very useful as well.

As for the brutha with the display problem, you could have had that fixed rather easily. Shame that it didn't work out for you.

i've been eyeing a s1000 keyboard for a little while now, but am not sure if i should get it now or save up for a s5000/s6000 or z4/z8. I want a companion to go with my mpc2000 (not xl) and what i want is for it to be able to play multiple programs at once (triggered over midi by the mpc). Do you think that the s1000 will do the trick or should I wait untill i can afford a used s6000? Second, how does well recycle work with the s1000? I don't have scsi on my computer. I know that the s1000 doesn't use wav files. Is it compatible with the MPC's .snd files or will I have find a conversion program? Can you hook up a zip drive to the s1000? Any opnions or knowledge anyone could drop would be dope. (or send me to web page that has the info i need) thanks..

Get an s950. No s900 because of the basic memory + the DD only diskdrive.
As far as i heard: the S1000/1100 will not sound as nice as an S950. If you for instance sample an 808 kick in it it will loose a lot of bottom end.
The price difference between S900 and S950 is around 100$.

well...in my s900 i put hd disks in it and they save fine.....and it also depends what you are using the s900 for......i am currently selling my s900....and it would be the same if it was a s950 for me.......some ppl buy the s900/s950 because of the engine...not the basic memory......there are ppl who still are purchasing sp12/sp1200 engines....and the sp12 has a sh*tty memory.....so i would tell that person if the s950 is hard to get your hands on buy the s900
