Roland XV 3080

Just bought one for $250 on craigslist. Nice compliment to the mpc 5000. I've never had any roland sounds in my rig. Looking forward to bangin some things out with it. interested in the Ultimate Keys card next. I figured this was a good choice rather than spending $1000 or more (give or take a couple hundred - used) for a Fantom with a ton of features that im not very interested in right now. Anyone have any experience with XV 3080 or XV 5080? interested to hear others thoughts and experiences on the unit.

I heard some of those older Roland racks were BOSS!!! The Guitar Center by me has a JV-2080 with 8 cards in it for like $400! I'd love to hear some of those sounds before I buy it though...

Any Roland piece is a sound investment the 3080 is no exception
Like any Roland piece it's exquisitely good at strings and pads and has that warm sound to it even for a S&S synth also backed up by some good FX that undoubtedly most likely came from the Boss side.

I use the XV-5050 and JV-1080 w/ the Vintage Keys expansion card. I love em both. The XV is my go to synth. I use it on almost everything.

The stock sounds are pretty decent, but like y'all said, it's the expansion cards that bring out the beast in these machines.

Still jock'n an expanded JV1080 myself w/ the vintage synth & hiphop collection cards.

Indeed my friend. The person i bought the 3080 from also had a JV 2080 with no expansion cards for $200. I've seen the jv cards go from $50 to $180. Do the math. 2080 with 8 cards is indeed a steal.

I have a JV-1080 expanded with the Hip-hop card, don't use it much really as I dont enjoy going thru menu after menu to edit sounds, patches and all that essential stuff on the small display.

The sounds are decent as you would expect from Roland, which explains why the JV and XV units hold their value so well.

Dammit, now I'm going to pick it up! Gearlust is a mutha...
After I heard the demo's here I lost it. I've looking a around for a new synth for a minute but didn't want to get any outdated sounding -ish

Just my opinion and take it for what it's worth and all that,
There's a very good reason why things like the roland series of JV and XV modules are so polpular with both studios and arrangers the world over, they are exceptional value and quality. I've been in and out of studio's for the last ten years and have had the luck and pleasure to work with a variety of musicians in the process. the JV series is one that I have found in almost every studio that i've worked in. As for the xv series. well one of my friends does pre production for an ad agency here in NZ and has 2 and swears by them. I myself have the tightly organised JV1010 which goes with me and my mpc to every studio I'm in so i can attest to them also. If you can get one for a good price, especially with what? 8 cards????? it is a no brainer IMHO.
