SCSI drive for my laptop

I just got two AKAI DR4D digital recorders. And its has a SCSI cable that is meant for hooking up to computers. I have looked around the web for scsi drives, which I have found in abundance, but I can never seem to find something that I can hook into my laptop and the recorder. I was just wondering if anybody had such a drive or if they know where to find any. Thanks.

Get the SCSI hard drive to connect to my laptop so I can get the already recorded music onto my computer.

You'll probably need a converter box to go from Firewire/USB to SCSI, Depending on what your connections are. There are also boxes that go USB to a PCI bus, so you could get a PCI card to drop in there. I don't recall those being particularly efficient though. You on a laptop or a desktop? The easiest way would probably be to get a PCI card that gives you SCSI, but that's probably going to be desktop only unless you can find a converter box.

I haven't had to look into that stuff in a while, and unfortunately dumped my SCSI gear a long time ago.

Thanks for the reply. I looked arounf and found some SCSI to USB cables but nothing was under $100. I only paid $30 for two DR4s! If I'm gonna drop this much money I'm gonna just save up a little bit more and get something new that is small and doesnt weigh 50 pounds.

no obvious way - laptops and SCSI are not a combination that are used much, because when SCSI was dominant most laptops were quite underpowered. Now you can get laptops with enough power for music production, and non-SCSI disks are as reliable and fast as SCSI ones.

All SCSI cards I know of are for desktops, so the SCSI-to-USB option might be your best bet

You won't be able to access the data on the Akai DR4 disks from a PC. It uses a proprietary disk format and you simply won't be able to retrieve anything.

Well whats the point of the SCSI if you cant get it onto a computer or CD? How do they expect someone to get the audio onto a cd or tape?

This is why I never got rid of my Adaptec 19160 scsi interface or the 36 gig, 10k rpm internal scsi hd I still use.
