Tascam US144 mkII...

I'm looking for an audio interface with:
- 2 line outs
- 2 line ins
- midi in/out
- usb

so i was looking into the Tascam US144 mkII, but then I've been reading that there's alot of problems with the drivers. saying that they crash your computer all the time, and just too many problems to deal with.

Can anyone recommend any other interfaces with those features above but is known to be a lot more stable?

my setup would be:

mpc 1k + oxygen 8 controller + yamaha MG124C + microkorg + 2 technics + stanton sk-2f mixer + interface + dell computer (running windows xp, Reason, and Acid Pro)

I would be tracking into the DAW 2 tracks at a time. I'm trying to save money so I wouldn't need an interface with 4 inputs (for the mpc's 4 outputs)

I think I have it right, but if i don't let me know.

get a used M-AUDIO Quattro interface... they're highly overlooked and can be found for under $50 on ebay... i've had one for years now and it's worked on both PC and MAC. it meets all the requirements you're looking for except it actually does have 4 ins and 4 outs... don't sleep.

...also keep in mind that 2 inputs really just means 1 stereo input... don't immediately think that 2 inputs means 2 tracks unless you're planning on recording mono tracks.

yea im aware about the mono tracks...

but what exactly would be the need for more line outs besides just 2? arent those just to connect to the speakers?
or do they have some other use I'm not thinkin about?

They have other uses you may not know about. More dedicated track/group control = a better overall mix.

Don't limit yourself, leave yourself some room for future expansion.

Here's some food for thought...there's a lot of not so good pro audio products out here and you just gotta make a sound choice as to which one you can get the most & the best bang for your money.

consider the apogee duet, friend has one, very nice. however, only 2 inputs, plus no midi and only works on mac. however, you can get cheap midi usb cable that should take care of midi.
