Someone explain this.

I have balanced cables going from my mixer into my MPC's record ins.

I was sampling a record and suddenly the level on the other one (R) dropped. I start troubleshooting. Check the connections, etc. I switch the cables going into the MPC, L to R and R to L. Bingo, the output level on the other cable is weak no matter where I plug it.

So I figure it's a bum cable, and replace it with another one. No big deal. But the problem's there with the new cable as well! So I do a simple switch. The cable that goes from MIXER (L) to MPC (L) I change so it goes from MIXER (R) to MPC (R). I do the same with the other cable. And the problem's gone. Now whatever combination I try with the cables the level's are fine.

Any idea what's going on here? ???

maybe something went wrong with the outputs (contact or so), that was then 'solved' by moving it a bit while plugging in a cable?
