Never touched the virus but the ION really impressed me. The way it operates is so cool, turn a knob and the screen automatically goes to the parameters you are trying to tweak..

the ION is a budget VA. it sounds like it too. the lower octaves dont manage too well under the DSP strain.

dont get me wrong its a neat synth but its nothing compared to a Virus.
